Sketchup Resource

Featured Replies

Several years ago, when I started to try and learn Sketchup, I stumbled upon a great resource for Sketchup and some really helpful plugins.

A link to the main source is-

http://www.srww.com/index.htm

From there you can link to Mr. Zeh's Sketchup articles/tutorials.

Mr. Zeh also wires Sketchup articles for Popular Woodworking- most include videos to show the actual processes. His YouTube channel has lots of very helpful videos-

If you use Sketchup or just want to see what can be done with this powerful FREE software- check it out!

The software can be found here-

Sketchup Make is FREE!

Thanks Lew. I tried learning this a while back and got side tracked. Maybe time to start over again.

Wayne,

I made several attempts to learn Sketchup and got frustrated. Two things finally helped me get over the hump. First, I bought "Google Sketchup- The Missing Manual". Now, I hate to read but this manual/tutorial really did help be understand the program better (I'm sure there are other books out there that are just as good- this is just the one I started with). Secondly, the Internet- specifically Fine Woodworking's "Design, Click, Build" (http://www.finewoodworking.com/blog/design-click-build) and Swamp Road Wood Work's Sketchup section.

Also, checkout http://sketchucation.com/ a great source of help and answered questions and https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/ an almost unlimited source of already designed "models".

There are still so many things that I don't know how to do- or could do easier- but it is coming along.

Lew, I actually subscribe to Joe Zeh's newsletter and I always enjoy reading it. He is a very impressive gent with his knowledge of woodworking and drafting. A very worthy "look into" for anyone.

Thanks Lew. I really want to learn this. I do a ton of scolling, but also make cabinets and smaller tables. I have been drawing them out the a graduated ruler and pencil and there are so many things that get over looked or other stuff. This is back on the list of things to learn. That and getting more time with my lathe.

A little mouse told me we are going to have a dedicated upload and download section for sketchup plans and many more! Hmmm, can't wait!

Thanks Lew!

Lew - thanks for the links - I also was getting myself cornfuzed with the application.  I'll look at the links and maybe get back into using it again.

Fred,

I can't count all of the false starts I had with Sketchup. But, it seemed like I must have learned a little from each one because the next time I tried, I got a little farther.

Thanks for the encouragement, Lew
