March 3, 201511 yr Finally it's done. I couldn't get anyone to help me toss this three hundred pound monster up the 26" onto the pedestal so I did it myself. Got some straps and some rope and a four sheave block and tackle and hung a beam. Here she be:
March 4, 201511 yr Author thanks guys. The last part the getting the beasties up in the air took the longest. Finish is Borg Bher Gloss applied with a roller for coverage and brushed out for gloss in a color the missus picked from their card rack. She's got a better eye than I do for this. Here's the original thread on the hand cutting of the drawer DTs Here; after I discovered abrasives It's good to get this thing off my bench,
March 4, 201511 yr Author Plans? I pulled this one right out of my backside. Don't recall using so much a a piece of paper. I can't really say why I started it. I had so many other things I wanted to do and one day I was cutting mortises and gluing up a frame. If I planned this there are some changes I think I'd have made. One of the changes would have been the height (it is a bit tall): The front casters are Great Lakes leveling casters that let me rotate a star wheel and lower a rubber post to lift the wheels so as to lock the thing in position. These casters - - or rather the star wheel inside them - - I would have accessed VIA a pop away panel held in place with magnets. plus I'd have inset the rear swivel casters to match. This would have let me lower the whole thing appreciably. I'd have planned for the drawer slides too. As it was I just left it off till the drawers were made figuring I'd have plenty of room to rig something up. I did, but it was a PITA. I wanted DEEP and large drawers, to get things like gallon bottles and paper towels in, so the height is part and parcel of that, so - - it's tall.
March 5, 201511 yr Cliff, those turned out really great. Way way better than those you buy at the store. Those must have been real beast to get up on the stands. Great project and thanks for sharing it.
March 8, 201511 yr Cliff - what a great job - I too have front loaders that are still on the floor - been pondering about building risers - can't stand the price they want in the stores - at least $250 EACH - ridiculous..... - I can identify with "Getting the beasties up in the air" - the washer must weigh 500 pounds (know it doesn't but the dead weight with no handles makes it feel that way)
March 8, 201511 yr Nice! Great looking finish! First glance I thought they were metal!!! Same here Lew. I thought it was the metal stands that you buy. It looks a whole lot better than the concrete blocks and 3/4" plywood I made for ours 20 years ago.
