February 13, 201511 yr I made about 6 hiking sticks/canes and they were very nice. I don't know if I posted pictures, but think I did Anyway today I got mine out and noticed that some of the areas had moisture spot coming thru the finish. I had a fix in mind and proceeded to clean the surface, preparing for a new finish. When things the way I wanted them, I got my spray finish out and started spraying. To my horror, I had grabbed the wrong can of finish and used white paint spray. When I last used the spray paint, I put the wrong caps on the white and the clear finish. OH shoot, I hurried as fast as I could to remove the paint. That quick dry stuff does dry quick and I had to sand it off along with some stain and by now I was looking around to see if any one had seen the goof I had made. I just laughed at myself and thought, well that is what old men do.
February 13, 201511 yr That's funny. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. I'm building a set of opposing doors for a small jewelry chest. Inside stiles and top rails are 1/4" less in width than their mates. Got them built, sanded and ready for finish and discovered that I built two lefts. Oh, crud! Oh well. Another design opportunity.
February 13, 201511 yr Been there Done than. Have the tee shirt and the paint stained rags to prove it.
February 14, 201511 yr Just know you are in great company Ron. There are those of us that have done it and admit it, and those that claim it never happened. Been there and done that too. I have also had to do this with over spray not paying attention to the area I was working in and being in a hurry.
February 14, 201511 yr Ron, Been there done that. Gene, Now you'll have to build a second jewelry chest. After all, you've already got one door done! For a bigger GOOF take a look at the picture to the left of this post.
December 11, 20196 yr Wow this brought back an old old memory... Back many years ago I had a newish 1962 chevy nova. I wanted the grill black. I had no spray paint or spray gun of any kind so I made one. I used a small glass baby food jar. What a mistake. It blew up on me full of black paint. Both me and the car was black... Good learning experience.
