February 10, 201511 yr I wrestled it in this morning with a couple girls helping and then one of the guys in the afternoon bunch helped put it together. They told me it might be easier to put the head on with it laying on the floor and then tipping it up. It sounded like a good idea but the fit was tight enough that we couldn't get it on the column so it was two of us lifting it up and putting it on the column and then the weight of it and some twisting got it to settle in where it should go. Tomorrow we'll be giving it a try, got a 2 5/8 Forstner that I need to put down through some pretty hard wood and we'll see how that goes.
February 10, 201511 yr Looks like a hole making monster. I'll bet you'll love it. Can someone help Roy set his machine upright. I would but I don't know how.

February 13, 201511 yr Author We've been using it for a few days now and I'm really liking it. First job was that 2 5/8 Forstner going about 4 inches deep in jarrah. It went fairly easy, just turned the speed down pulled it down. We'd cut a ways and then bring it up to clear the shavings and then back down for another bite, but boy did that bit get hot. I'm enjoying the table that cranks up and down, a lot easier for the kids than unlocking and wiggling the old table up and down the column. It's nice having the start button right there on the front rather than having to reach around back for the toggle switch, and there's a big red stop bottom right there up front in case things go wrong all the sudden. And we've actually got a chuck key now! The old Craftsman had lost the chuck key and I'd never found a new one to fit so we were working the chuck with a big punch and screwdriver, somewhat less than professional looking. So far my only complaint is I wish Steel City had a better system for attaching the top cover over the belt. That thing rattles around and makes more noise than the rest of the machine.
February 13, 201511 yr Get a set of spindle sander bits for that press and don't forget a set of mortise bits!!! You'll find that drill press will pay for itself once you have a table and fence set up for it. oh, don't forget plug cutters!!!!!
December 11, 20196 yr Yes and the fix is clean it and allow solvent to dry. Put it back in socket and place a piece of wood against it and give the wood a solid smack. As long as there is no galling this should work. Sometimes just lowering the quill down onto a piece of wood will set it also, just be careful not to force this too hard and break the handle.
