5 YEARS IN THIS hockey sticks HOLE WITH NO SHOP AND ONLY A FEW HOURS A WEEK IN MY FRIENDS WOOD SHOP AIN'T GONNA CUT IT NO MORE.

I STARTED A LANDSCAPING/CONTRACTING/TREE BUSINESS BACK WHEN I WAS MARRIED (EONS AGO). I WAS AROUND 24 YEARS OLD AND DID PRETTY GOOD AT IT TILL THE DIVORCE.

 

I'M NOW 53? AND I DECIDED TO DO IT AGAIN.

 

SO INTO THE VALLEY OF DEATH I RIDE WITH THE 600, READY TO DO BATTLE AGAIN.

 

I'M MAKING APOTHECARY CABINETS AND TEA CABINETS IN DIFFERENT SIZES, ALL WITH DRAWER FRONTS THAT CAN BE CUSTOMIZED (BY ME).

 

SO RAGE, RAGE AGAINST THE DYING OF THE LIGHT. I WILL NOT GIVE IN WITHOUT A FIGHT!!!  AND IF I DIE UPON THE TABLESAW WITH A POUCH FULL OF SCREWS AND A SCREWGUN IN MY HAND, SO BE IT!!!!

Mike, first off congratulations on the new found enthusiasm! Sounds like it's just what the doc ordered.

Secondly, how are you marketing the cabinets? And where can we view images of them if you have any completed yet?

That's the one cliff, lol.  John, as soon as the first one is done I'll shoot it.  I have a few towns around that buy antiques and stuff like this so after I build a few there are some consignment shops and antique places I'll drop one or two off at and see who bites.

I'd be excited too Mike, sounds a great project, fun and the potential is pretty cool to think about.

Best of luck. I rn the same route when I lost my job in May of 2014. It is a huge struggle but well worth it all. Hang in there, the best is yet to come.

Well this is what I'd do if I were going to go that route.

First make some of your best work.

Then pay the $$$ to have it photographed by an expert.

Get a bunch of glossies made load images to a decent lap top and

Using Google

Find the interior designers in the nearest big city.  The ones with phone page ads business cards and who have portfolios of things including custom furniture nickknacks  etc.

 

Call them  make appointments to go to them and show your stuff.

 If you can get them to consider you  your pieces will sell for a heck of a lot and you'll never do a bit of the selling after that initial contact.
