Knots In Pine Trim

Featured Replies

I've tried every bleedin' stinkin' thing that you will see spoken about everywhere.

Nothing works

I mean nothing.  Not varnish, not shellac, not three coats of  varnish or shellac. not killz not drylok  - -  nothing works.

Oh sure they work long enough for the poor sodding bugger who tries them to rush to the interwebs or book  publisher and crow about his or her fabulous results - - - and then six  months later the bleedin' stinkin' knots show up again and  - - well that puts lie  to those mythical fables.

Except one thing that I discovered out of desperation and chance.

Ya see  I have restored  7  desperately dilapidated homes in three different states ( all by myself) and I tried all that nonsense and it really does not work.  They are  not long haul solutions , they are  just a bandaids for a few months.

What works the longest?  The most permanent that so d far I've never seen a bleed through?

Flat enamel white (or any color really) spray paint in the can.

For whatever reason those lovely spray enamels stop pine knots dead.

Flat enamel because it takes house paint over top without complaint.

Don't tell anyone

it's a secret.
