September 15, 201411 yr And time for the $0.05 tour? Cleared out, and cleaned the dump out a few weeks ago. Picked up a cabinet to sit the Craftsman 22" mitresaw on ( saw was $5, cabinet was $15). Got some parts out of the scrap heap outside, and made a stand for the old lathe. Found a spare light socket overhead of the new lathe's spot, and even found a light bulb that works! Ok, starting from the new lathe stand, and turning to the north as we go Then turn a bit to the left And a view of the workbench, set up to sharpen a saw or two. Recently added a strip of leather to the chop of the legvise. Leather came from an old nailbag. Next, turn just a hair more to the left And this mess appears. An old dresser was found here when I moved in. Now is a catch-all for some things. Hey, every shop needs a shop fan, right The "bench to the left is just an old table top with a pair of sawhorses for legs. On the end of that bench Is a sharpening center. Grinder has a jig on one wheel, set to about 25 degrees or so. IF an iron or chisel is in BAD shape, it will start there. Now, about tool chests, Yep have two, at the moment one out of walnut and pine, with a bit of Sycamore for raised panels on the ends. Has a few trays, too. The second one?also has a few trays inside. and a saw till in the lid. This one was out of an old Oak bed frame, and some pine 1x10s from a waterbed base. Oak made the frames to house the pine raised panels. There is an old dryer down in the shop, and I store the "ready use" planes on it. I have a thin strip of wood under the toes, to keep the irons off the metal top. There is a wall hanger shelf, plastic, that stores most of the chisels and screwdrivers in the shop. Hanging in an out of my way spot on the one wall that is clearright by the stairway to the outer world... Well this is my shop. Not all that big, but for just one guy, it isn't too bad.

September 17, 201411 yr In some ways I like small shops too, but in o ways I WANT A BIGGER ONE! LOL Couldn't resist hollering that Remember, my shop is my living room. So I have realy no choice but to clean it up daily. It takes time away from the turning part, but I have no choice hehe.
September 17, 201411 yr The bigger the shop, the less room you have to move around cause you just fill it up.
September 17, 201411 yr The bigger the shop, the less room you have to move around cause you just fill it up. LOL that's assuming of course that one has the money to fill it up with something
September 17, 201411 yr Things just seem to find a way into the shop! LOL Yep that's true even if its old "junk" wood
August 24, 20169 yr Author Well, a few more toys have since arrived down in the Dungeon Shop....The lathe has it's own bench to sit on.....but seems to attract a lot of junk being piled on it. Takes awhile to uncover it, for the few times I need it. With the arrival of a full sized bandsaw, and still having the 3-wheeler, one full the resaw stuff, the wee one for curved work, Getting a might crowded Have a small router table, with it's own stand. Added some racks to the back of the bench, to hold chisels and squares... a few "new" photos ? I did find a place for the Type2 Work mate bench...and it filled right up. The curved handle is a large scoop dust pan. Now, IF I can get Igor to at least USE it The leg thing to the left? Holds the 3-wheeler. Behind that is the router table. Metal legs to the left are for the Craftsman 12" bandsaw. Clear in the back is the bench with the Stanley #358 mitre box. The H-F drill press is off the the left. You can almost see the rack on the back of the work bench.. Welcome to the dungeon..... I think everyone has seen the drill and plane tills, if not, I can post them here.
August 24, 20169 yr Author There is one nice thing about this old basement shop.....overhead storage! Eggbeaters, saws....clamps, and a few more saws One of the sights one sees when they get to the bottom step, and look to the left.. A little fuzzy, but I was a tad worn out, after a long work session. Box beside the stool? That would be Tool Chest #1 Walnut and Sycamore tool chest. Behind the Craftsman grinder is a till for six braces and most have a bit in them...ready to go. Ah, yes, I did say I have a lathe? Old Craftsman "T" rail lathe, that I bought new about...1990? Along with a set of chisels for it. They are laying there...somewhere...
August 31, 20169 yr I'm too old to hang stuff overhead and too creaky to pick it up off the floor. So my benches stay cluttered. Don't laugh. The day will come.
