July 2, 201015 yr Last night I was getting a few things finished for the craft shows the weekend. I had a friend that recently came back from a mission trip in Hondurous. He brought me back a piece of Hondurion Mahagony. The piece is about 8" x 15" x 1/14".  I turned him a pen when I got it and last night decided to make one to put out tonight.  Just put BLO and CA on for a finish. Six coats of each followed by Hut Clear Coat and then buffed.    Wall Street II Pen Blank    Pictures are a liitle dark. I took them this morning in the house and not under my bright lights.  John  www.johnmoodywoodworks.com   Â
July 2, 201015 yr John that is absolutely beautiful!!! The colors the hardware, a great combination. You did good. And by the way, best of luck to you at the craft show!!! May it be fun and possibly prosperous, but fun first!
July 4, 201015 yr Author The show was fun. Huge crowd last night. Sold one pen, a deer call, and three hand mirrors. It was okay financially, but it was a fun night. I was suppose to do on in Tennessee today, but it got canceled. John
July 8, 201015 yr Just curious John, how many of these shows do you go to in a year. And, could you make a living at it if you frequented the shows more often? Not that you'd want to, just curious if a guy could.
July 8, 201015 yr Author Right now I am doing one a month here in Florence and I am doing one a month in Tennessee. No way I could make a living on it right now. Lots of people looking but most of them are keeping their hands in their pockets and not spending a lot of money. I have picked up several commission jobs. They pay better, but I still couldn't live on it. I try to keep up with what it cost me for shop stuff and so far I am in the positive for that, but it wouldn't put any food on my table also. I have committed to the two I am doing through the end of the year and then I will decide if I want to keep it up. The hardest part is keeping inventory made up as you sell. Sometimes that takes all of my shop time and I don't get to build anything else. But hey, it is still shop time right?
July 14, 201015 yr SOrry John, I didn't see this reply, yes, shop time is what's important, and the money isn't always what it's about is it? Sometimes it's just fun to sit at the fair and watch people walk by, if you make a sale, cool.
