Finishing Walnut sap wood

Featured Replies

Okay,

I have a bunch of walnut that I have had a while. LOML wants me to build a kitchen table out of walnut.

When I got out there going through the walnut looking for boards 6" wide by 80" long it became apparent that I did not have many that didn't have a defect somewhere in it. I have a some that is pretty good, but has some sap wood on the edges.

So my question is this.

Can I use the boards that have the sap wood on them and stain them with say a gel stain to make the sap wood blend in with the walnut?

I would rather have it all natural walnut, but that may not happen unless I purchase or find some more walnut around close to get.

Any ideas or suggestions??

Thanks Larry, I will take a look to see what I can find. I am pretty sure it will not match, but who knows.

I may be off to the hardwood store to purchase some more Walnut.

Thanks again my friend.

Seems like I remember seeing that somewhere.

I'll look around.

Thanks
