July 20, 201015 yr My pen stock had gotten a little low while I have been working on other projects so tonight I got a few more turned. Â This one is a Red Acrylic Wall Street II Pen. Â Â Â Â This one is Leopard Wood Wall Street II Pen. Â Â This one is Zebra Wood Wall Street II Pen and the Zebra Wood is cut on a 45 degree angle. Â Â Â And this one is Zebra Wood Cut on the 45 in a Slim Line Pen. Â Â They were finished with CA and BLO and then buffed on the Beal Buffing System. Â John
July 20, 201015 yr I love the wood pens John, beautiful. I am still trying to get used to the acrylic ones though, give me some time, I can warm up to them.
July 20, 201015 yr Author John, I know what you mean about the acrylics. I am not a huge fan of them, but I have some request for them. I like the wood ones better and think they are way more unique. John
July 23, 201015 yr Thanks. I've only tried the CA finish on turnings a time or two, and successfully made a heckuva mess When I get through setting up shop, I'd like to get the technique down... John Moody said: Josh,Thanks, I use 6 coats of blo and CA and then buff them.John

July 23, 201015 yr Author This is the only one I have tried. It was recommended to me when I started making pens and I just stuck with it. http://www.woodcraft.com/Product/2000346/496/Hot-Stuff-Super-T-Instant-CA-Glue-2-Ounces.aspx I may have to give some of the others a try. Thanks John Joshua D. Rollins said:It also makes a big difference the type of CA you use, at first I thought CA is CA so I just picked up some Gorilla super glue. It worked but it was a pain, I then tried the locktite super glue and got better results. It wasn't until one night at work while looking through a woodcraft catalog that I realized the 4 onces of titebond was a heck of a lot cheaper than buying the smaller tubes so I picked some up while I was in Chattanooga the next time. The first pen I finished afterwards I thought "wow this stuff works great, it's like it was made to be used for this purpose". Another one of those DUH moments. Jason Wilkerson said:
July 23, 201015 yr Author I have turned them with the grain straight and you are right, they just don't have that zing to them or I guess on this network it would be bing. lol You need a little wider piece of wood to get the length. I really like the added character it gives the piece. I have used that same technique on some other species and it works well to give a different look also. Give it a try and let's see what we come up with.. John Joshua D. Rollins said:Also, very nice work on the pens. The cut makes it look like marble. I'm going to have to cut the rest of my Zebra Wood to 45 because I wasn't nearly as impressed with the look of them straight as I am with the look of these.
July 25, 201015 yr Thanks, will do John Moody said: When you get setup, give me a yell and I will help you anyway I can.JohnJason Wilkerson said:
July 25, 201015 yr I think I used a different brand from Woodcraft than the link above, but it was before Titebond introduced their version. The stuff I have worked like a charm for gluing together one's fingers, lol!
July 27, 201015 yr Author I know what you mean about the finger's getting glued. I keep a good supply of Acetone on the shop just for that reason. I'll have to get some of the Titebond version and give it a try. John
July 28, 201015 yr The stuff I have is Fast Cap 2P-10. I also have some Rockler branded CA that I haven't tried to use. Woodcraft has the Titebond on a bit of a sale next month for anyone interested.
