August 10, 201015 yr I got an idea for a special vase using some firewood I had. Over the years, I discovered some interesting wood in my stack of firewood. I have made many projects from them and this is one of my favorites. It is made of spalted Apple and Yellow Hart. The inside is just a hole bored in.............for two reasons. 1. The spalted Apple was weak in places and I didn't trust it for strength2. I do not have the tools, skill level or desire to turn the inside.http://api.ning.com/files/gqV61od7SoDjHFtURdLfCPqE-RvjlHKFA0iIz2RpY6A2jElPlVgRZMP6cTniHybCBoHWj2qinXjKUCSHcRmtGwf3gW*FG68R/Ringedvasesm.jpg'>
August 10, 201015 yr Ron that is very nice. I really like the spalting in that piece. Gives it a great look. Very nice shape with good lines. What is the other wood in the rings, is that Paduk buy chance? I truly understand the turning the inside. I haven't collected any of the hollowing tools yet either. But hey there is nothing wrong with the hold bored in the middle. I have seen many where they did that and then inserted a glass tube in it to hold water and use it like a bud vase. Thanks for sharing it with us.
August 10, 201015 yr Author I'm pretty sure it was Pauduk, but I have used Bloodwood also. John Moody said:Ron that is very nice. I really like the spalting in that piece. Gives it a great look. August 10, 201015 yr Well that was my other thought but I couldn't really tell from the picture. I have some bloodwood that I am about to use to make a chess board with for a client.
