Sable's Casket

Featured Replies

Hi All!

Well, I finally came across my camera cord, so I uploaded the pictures of Sable's Casket that we made her, so you all could see.
The casket is made out of those doors that we had discussed and we put a thick
weather stripping around the inside rim and the door, so it would seal better.

We also put hinges, latches and handles on it, I then painted & decorated

it. After it had dried, I then put a coating of polyurethane all over it.

After that had dried, I put her blankets inside it and her pillow along with

one of her toys.

At her burial site, in the back yard, we dug a hole and then built a box

that was about 3 inches smaller than the hole. We then poured cement all around

the box in the 3 inch gap that was between the box and the ground and also

poured a lid for the box out of cement that was about 3-4 inches thick. This

made her a vault inside the hole, just like the kind people are buried in.

Before the cement had completely hardened on the lid, I wrote a message on it

for my Sable girl.

The day then came that it was completely hardened & dried all inside the

hole and ready for burial.

After saying my goodbyes to Sable and shedding many many tears, we put my baby

in the casket, covered her up with her blankets and put her toy beside her. I

then prayed for God to watch over her, until I came there to be with her again.

We closed the lid on her casket and latched it, and I put a coating of the

polyurethane around the seal. We then put rope around the casket and lowered

her in. The concrete lid was put onto the top and that sealed the vault. My

fiancé then started shoveling the dirt and putting it onto the casket and

finished burying my baby. I had had all that I could take, I was so emotional

at this point, I couldn't watch him cover her up.

That night I put some things I had made and bought for her grave site on the

grave, painted some large rocks and put all around the burial site.

Since then, I have planted flowers all around it and I am in the process of

finally being able to make her headstone. That was a tough one for me to start,

but I'm finally able to do it. I will take more pictures of the site once I get

the head stone finished.

This wasn't the most elaborate casket and burial site, but it was all made from

our hands and with the most love ever!!

There are more pictures of all this on my profile page, please take a look and let me know what ya'll think of my finished project!!

Thanks to all of you who sent me messages of condolences, inspiration and all the help!!
~God Bless You All~!!!!!
Teri, Leo and most of all Sable!!

MAY SHE REST IN PEACE AND HAVE LOTS OF FUN AT RAINBOW BRIDGE!!

Hello Teri,

I know how you feel my dear for we have shed many a tear our selves and that includes the ones I am shedding now and my feelings at this moment for you and your loved ones. When we lose a pet who has become a part of the family and they are like our children it is so very hard to let them go. My prayers are with you all at this time of grieving. May God be with you through this ordeal.

Respectfully,

Ralph

Thank you very much John...you all are so kind. And you are welcome for sharing the pictures.

So, what DO you think of the casket and vault? Did we do alright, considering what we had to work with?

God Bless,

Teri

Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I am sorry to hear of your loss, it took me three tries to read all of you post for I kept thinking of all our lost furry family members.

You built a wonderful casket and vault for her.

Good Evening Steven and Thank you. Like I said not the most elaborate casket ever, but I wasn't going for that anyways. I just wanted something we could make her that would last & protect her forever! That is a wonderful idea for a headstone....I am going to check into it. Thanks!

You did just fine! That concrete vault will protect the precious contents almost forever. One could carve a statue of Sable to use as a "master" to make a mold. The mold would be filled with concrete. The concrete stutue, when it comes out of the mold, would make a very good headstone for you. Some oil-based paints could then be applied to "mimic' sable's appearence. Consider it a work of art, for a work of Mother Natures Art.

John,

Thank you very much for the kind & gentle words. Sable came into my life when she was 5 weeks old, and stayed with me until she was a little over 12 years old. She was everything to me, as I was to her. I miss her every single second of every single day!!

God Bless,

Teri

That's the thing about people dying or pets dying.

"Remember the good times you had and thank the Lord for allowing you to share in there happiness , for them to share in yours and for the time you'll see them again.
