Slab of Claro Walnut. Great figure, two book matched slabs of net 8/4, 9' long and each slab is 13 inches wide. 650 bucks.  I am emailing Baker Hardwoods to determine if this price includes shipping from Gilroy CA.  I asked for price quotes including shipping.

I love this lumber, it would make a perfect chair, get a load of that tiger figure.

I say go for it. That look real nice. Man, it's so easy to spend your money.24.gif

I wouldn't even hesitate. It will just bump up the price of the next chair.

I can see if now, a book matched seat.

John,

With the thickness, width and length you will have 39 BF @ $16.66 = $650.00. If that includes shipping it is money well spent.

Hello John,

This board or slab is not much for value because by the time you remove the defects and blemishes there would not be enough clear wood for anything more than maybe a jewelry box or maybe a turning for the lathe. However the first picture is a beautiful pair of book matched slabs that will indeed make for a nice looking seat and it would be a shame to cover it with someone's rear end. Save it for something that will be seen in it's entirety.

Just making small talk.

Good Morning Gene,

Yes, I agree that to some it gives a piece character to a degree but, I am used to trying to eliminate blemishes in the products I attempt to make.

What is one man's fancy would be like a thorn in the side for another. It all boils down to what a person's feelings are about any given piece. Take Amber Jean for instance, she can take a piece of garbage for one and make it into a beautiful piece of art work. Amberjean.com

Ralph, the optimist in me looks at those defects and blemishes as "negative spaces and design opportunities". But then working with mesquite has forced that frame of mind.

Howdy guys, the above board is an informative example only on how to read the chalk markings on a slab, I pulled it off the same website as the quilted walnut slabs you see in the original post. Larry asked what those chalked numbers meant, and this was to explain it only.

Pretty and with your money you shouldn'nt even wince. What's the weight on that piece?

Ron, I am still waiting for a price out the door on this, I think they have closed for the weekend. The weight I am not sure off.
