October 18, 201015 yr The past three days was our local are festival at The Diamond Valley Arts Council. Don't know if you guys remembered, but I was asking a time back if you all thought I should enter my chair in the festival, and you all agreed I should, and I gave credit to Maloof for inspiration and Hal Taylor for teaching me how to build a chair. The chair was incredibly well received. Many compliments, oohs and awes, and the chair won the "Best of Show" award in the 3 dimensional category! There was another show organizer there that wanted me to enter the chair in their show for competition. I said sure!Today me and the family met the new owners of the chair at the arts festival, this was the first time they got to see it in person. And they were thrilled. The gentleman on the left is the customer who bought it for his wife center, and yours truly on the right holding the "Best of Show" award. The following picture is my wife and I, my wife was called out to my shop many a night to give me council on grain orientation and as a third hand when I needed it. Not to mention all the hot meals she brought out to me as I hammered away at this project while the rest of the gang ate dinner inside. This next picture is the family standing behind some sidewalk chalk art in front of the arts center, this guy did some awesome work. Overall the afternoon was very enjoyable, we got see some musicians, a great female and male vocalist guitar and violin duet, they were great, and 20 piece jazz band, horns, guitar, drums, big bass and piano, Mexican folk dancers, ceramic painting for the kids, and a chance to rub elbows with some neat people in my local valley. Thanks for looking folks.
October 18, 201015 yr That is fantastic John. I am sure the new owner made some good points in getting that chair for his bride. My wife gets the call quite often also to put a different set of eyes on something. Sounds like the family had a great afternoon.
October 18, 201015 yr That's real cool John, That should help in getting the word around that there's a master rocker maker in the area.
October 18, 201015 yr You did a fantastic job on the rocker and deserved the praise and award given. I'm sure the owner will treasure it forever. It also looked like a great time was had by all. Good job!
October 18, 201015 yr That is one beautiful rocker. Every time I see it I'm somewhere between amazed and jealous!
October 18, 201015 yr Author Thanks guys for all the kind compliments, and I am truly humbled, I wish I could take all the credit for it, but I have to give ol Sam credit for the original inspiration, and my teacher and rocking chair master Hal Taylor. And if any of you all want to build this cool project, you must look up Hal Taylor. He will show you how! Joshua, my next rocker I am going to change the design somewhat, then I can call it "My Rocker".
