November 4, 201015 yr       Ever have on of those days? Can't find the piece of wood I had prepared to rout a rabbit in. About to cut/plane another, did find it. Can't find my router bit. Looked for an hour. Quit and went to big box for another bit. None in stock. Went to a tool shop, didn't have the three eights size I wanted. As a last resort, I stopped at ACE and they had one. Go home and line everything up and attempt to start the table router. It bumps and freezes. It is not old, it shouldn't do that. I figured it may have the shaft lock jammed in place, or I hoped maybe something easy to fix. Not so. I removed it and prepared to disassemble it. I don't want to do this, I want to throw it up against the wall. As I take it to my bench to repair, a sheet metal screw falls out of it. So that is where that screw went I Couldn't find yesterday. I made my rabbit and quit for the day, time to sit down and read the paper.
November 4, 201015 yr Oh yes, one if not more of those days that I care to remember. And I can guarantee you Ron, if you went to ACE first, you would not have found that router bit!
November 4, 201015 yr I have had way to many of those days. I can even have it in my hand, lay it down and then can't find it. A few days back I was going to change the blades in my planner. It has the ones you can use both sides and I couldn't remember if I had already flipped them or not. Took it apart and yep they had already been flipped, but then I remembered I purchased a new set before I knew they could just be flipped. I remembered the blue package and I remembered hanging them on the pegboard in the shop. Looked for an hour couldn't find them decided I had already used them. Went to big blue and purchased another pack of blades, walked back into the shop and saw the corner of the other package hanging on the pegboard behind my 60" medal ruler. I just hope after I flip this set and then need to change them again, I remember I already have a set. Now, if I can just remember where I put my pencil???
November 4, 201015 yr Author John, Every once in a while, my wife hands me a handful of pencils. The first time she did it, I asked her what she was doing with all my pencils. She calmly told me that when came in from my shop, I usually laid my pencil on the counter, but never picked it back up on the way out. So that is why they kept disappearing. My mother always told my dad that when he couldn't find something that he had just laid down, "Just sit down and relax because the devil is hiding it, just to make you angry"
November 4, 201015 yr Ron, I can believe that about the devil hiding it. I have to have at least a hundred pencils somewhere in that shop. One day I am going to move everything out and see how many of them I can find. LOL Ron Altier said: John, Every once in a while, my wife hands me a handful of pencils. November 4, 201015 yr If had all the time back I spend looking for "stuff" in the shop I could double my production.
November 5, 201015 yr Hey Ron, Been there don e that for I have five pencils laying on the desk in front of me right now as I look down. So my friend you are not the only one who does that same trick. They always say that when you want to hide something to just leave it in plain sight and you will look right over it most of the time. Sometimes I look for a router bit and it is not in the case or drawer where I keep them for I left it in the router after it's last use but forgot I had left it in the router. Since I have 6 routers it is a constant search sometimes trying to find which one I left it in. Just like not cleaning up after each use of a piece of machinery we tend to lose things in the sawdust and don't find them till we finally vac the mess up and we hear a loud clink when the bit or what ever hits the blower fan. Then it's hunting through the sawdust trying to find it. I carry a telescoping magnet in my pocket and it helps to find them when that happens.
