What do you have in your shop?

Featured Replies

Good morning Friends,

What do you have in your shop that you are trying to get finished before you start another project?

Or are you folks like me by having more than one project that you are working on that you can proceed while the glue is setting on one project or the finish is drying on another one?

I am working on two different projects for I am making a QSWO mantle in a box form with the French cleat that will hold it to the wall without corbles until the client lays a brick veneer to the wall around the gas fire place. The second is a window that will match the other one I made for a job in the country. Then today after fitting the tenons in the mortises and finally gluing it up, I will be able to get back to the mantle project.

Then after that I can start the two counter tops I have contracted to build.

I've got three end grain cutting boards that ready to start sanding on and one to finish sanding. Yesterday I got a puppet stage put together that my wife wanted me to make for the grandkids. She's approved the one I made so now she wants two more of them. I think I'm also supposed to be building a book case. Seems like the more I do the more that shows up.

Welcome to the club Roy, I know where you are coming from for it's the same all over until you put a price on the project.

In my mess I have 6 cherry and walnut end grain chopping boards to sand, 2 knotty pine night stands to complete, and a few more push blocks to cut out.

on the horizon is some router cut trays and slide out trays for our kitched cabinets

Hello Roy and John,

It's a shame you fellows don't live closer to me for you could use my 38" drum sander to sand those end grain cutting bords on and while it is sanding we could chat a while and maybe even have a pepsi or something. Why i might even put on a pot of coffee. I sold a job today tat will be tao base cabinets 48" W x 18 D x 36" H with built in book cases mortised into the base tops for an over all height of 8' and they will set on each side of their fireplace. I will be doing PIP (pictures in progress) as I am building them right from scratch to finish. There will be adjustable shelves in both cabiinets. The book shelves will be 48" W x 12" D x 5' H and like I stated they will be mortised into the top of the base units and I will have face frames on the sides and top with crown molding at the tip of the book cases.

What I have in the shop at this moment is a fireplace mantle that I am making in a box form that will be 60" W x 11" D x 4" high and will mount to the wall by the means of a French cleat for the owner is planning to run brick veneer up and over the mantle so there is no way it can be moved once the veneer is set. The mantle is QSWO and has a lot of figure.

I also have to counter tops that I will be starting Monday, while two other refurbish jobs are set on the back burner for ther is no rush on them. Other than that I am sailing along as best I can and being content in what I am doing.

Well I just finished six nine cutting boards this past week. I also did two the chess boards. This past week I got an order for another full size Cedar Chest from a person that saw the pictures on my web site. Then Friday I got an order for one of the mitten cedar chest on the website. Both have to be finished before Christmas. I have five more Cedar chest to build for the family that tore down the barns, but I am waiting on them to bring me the rest of the cedar for that project. I was asked last Sunday to give a quote on a child's toy box. They had seen one and an unfinished wood store they liked. I went and looked at it and they wanted 189.00. The wanted me to add the safety hinges to the one I would build. I just didn't think I could do it and stain it to match the child's bedroom suite and compete with that price. So I passed up on that one unless they decide to take my price. Tomorrow I need to work on an order for three pen and pencil sets to deliver next week. I also have the rocker that I am making the new rockers for.

It has been busy in my shop lately that is why today there was no woodworking and just cleaning up. I had so much stuff out and around that it was getting way to cluttered to work on that many projects at once.

I am so thankful that business has been good. I had an outdoor craft show last night, 40 degrees and a light breeze, it was pretty cool. Crowd was down so sales were not as good as expected. Sold a pen, hand mirror and duck call.

Well, Let's see

Finish the water dragon drawing

sharpen the old plane i got at auction (done) and fix the other plane.

replant snake plants

Keep the coffee in the can and make it a Diet Pepsi and you may have a deal Ralph. I'd just need to justify the drive to meet you. Which London are you in Madison or Richland county?

Ralph,

You're 9 hours from me if I drive straight through, add my need for frequent rest stops (AKA weak bladder) it would take me 10 or 11 hours one way. Also as I only will have 1 day a week off until mid February at the earliest I'm going to have to ask you to put that soda on Ice for a bit.

Thanks for the offer and if I ever get in the area I will be sure to meet with you

Hi John,

That's OK for I have a fold away bed you could just spend the night. At least it is better than the couch.

I got started on a bookcase yesterday. It's one that Norm did on Yankee Workshop. While I was still at school I'd gotten some ad that said they were giving away a free video and plan so I asked for it but hadn't gotten around to building one yet. I showed it to a few guys at school but most of them didn't want to spend that much on a project. Yesterday I got the box all rabbeted, dadoed, grooved and glued together. Today it's start on the oak trim to finish it. I was at Lowes yesterday but forgot to look to see if they have oak crown molding. I better go get at it but first got to stop in for a haircut, got a job interview tomorrow and I probably should try to look halfway good for that.

Hey Ron,

A job interview? That's great my friend and it will help out very much should you land it. Good Luck and best wishes.
