November 15, 201015 yr Got a forced day off of work today (furloughed for budget reasons) and Rob Durfos of Tule Peak Timber has made time for me to jump in my truck and track down some walnut on his huge lot. I'll check in with you all when I get back!
November 16, 201015 yr Author Man you got that right Richard! Here is the results of my trip. First photo is of the stack of walnut I got to dig through! This pic is after I have dug a little deep, and I am waist high in walnut by this time. Starting to narrow it down! And my final decision, 3 nice slabs of 8/4 Claro Walnut. Thank you Rob Durfos for letting me hang out and dig through your stack. Rob also showed me some massive Claro Slabs that were just absolutely beautiful. One or two of them were quilted, I am not ready for that jump yet, but I think the next chair, maybe. If Rob still has some around! Thanks for looking folks. Now it's time to start making some sawdust on chair number 2.
November 16, 201015 yr Glad you could make it by today John .I'm working on getting another truck load of walnut in from up north , and I hope it is soon ! Seems like everyone loves walnut -
November 16, 201015 yr Author Yes Rob, we all love walnut!!! It is one of our favorite woods to work with, if you take a poll, walnut usually wins hands down. The aroma is wonderful too. Now about those massive claro slabs, when will those be ready? If I knew when I might want one, can we speed up the process in your kiln?
November 16, 201015 yr Well, I jealous again. You know how far I'd have to drive to see something like that! That's certainly some nice looking "stuff".
November 16, 201015 yr I could spend all day sorting through a pile like that and would have a hard time making a choice. Got to love that walnut. Such a rich color and works so good.
