December 4, 201015 yr I am officially starting on my rocker today, so for awhile I will be off my rocker!I was in San Diego all day yesterday, first part of the morning was spent helping Ma Morris out with some home repairs. Then I on my way back up home, I stopped in at Frost Hardwoods and purchased some (True) 8/4 walnut, about 50 bdft. The BDFT cost below 50 feet was 9.67 per foot, once I hit the 50 mark, it was reduced to 6.99 per foot, so that was a no brainer, even though I need 40 for the chair, if I went up to 50 then I basically got 10 feet for free. The walnut is clean, some nice grain variation, and straight. I will post pics later today before I go cuttin into it.I have Rob Durfos Walnut Slabs on standby for now, I got the chair parts cut out of those slabs, and I am waiting for the MC to get just a tad lower before I start shaping it into a chair. You guys should see how beautiful Robs slabs are are shaping up, I love working with wild walnut trees that went through the rigors of nature, drought one year, rain the next, stressed grains, wild color variation, it's the best for these chairs. Robs Claro slabs are also very reasonably priced as well. If Rob ships, it might be worth it to you guys to check his slabs out if you don't have any in your neighborhood. So, today, my shop once again will be filled with the wonderful aroma of walnut, and soon I will be in woodworking bliss.
December 4, 201015 yr Glad to see you getting started on another chair. Are you going to document this build with pictures like you did with the other one? I hope so. Rich
December 4, 201015 yr Author You know, I wasn't going to Rich, but now that there is one request out there, I might have to now. It would provide good content for us too wouldn't it! I will probably start a photo blog of it, the last chair I did, I didn't quite finish the blog I started, I got close to the end and I got too excited about finishing it and I left the blog in the dust. I promise I'll try to keep current this time around. Richard McComas said:Glad to see you getting started on another chair.
