What is your favorite lumber retailer

Featured Replies

We are composing a list of internet lumber sales as well as your local lumber providers.

So, where is your favorite place to shop for your project wood, or home improvement lumber?

Internet and local dealers.

Thank you

John

Well, my favorite place is Frank Miller Lumber in Union City IN. They specialize in quarter and rift sawn woods, as well as really good quality (Columbia Forest Products) hardwood ply. That's only about a 60 mile drive for me, and I don't mind that. But for online stuff I've used Steve Wall Lumber out of Hickory NC and they are also a top notch outfit. Quite a bit cheaper as well, until you add on the shipping charges to my neck of the woods.

Fred and I are in full agreement.  Frank Miller Lumber is the best in this area.  Interestingly, they have several pricing methods from retail to fully commercial.  URL is www.frankmiller.com       Unfortunately, their price sheet isn't available online but I'm sure Fred or I could get you a price from our sheets.  They also have about any exotice you want.

One of my favorite Lumber distributors is Hardwoods Incorporated. They have a distribution center in Piperton, TN which is about 120 miles from me, but I don't mind the drive over to walk around and drool. I get most of my exotic woods from them.

Here is a link to what they offer.

I also purchase a fair amount of rough cut lumber for Covey Leaf Hardwoods, LLC in Pulaski, TN. They are also a saw mill and I take my own logs there to have them sawed.

I don't have a real good source here for sheet goods other than the big box stores.

In south St Louis there are a few real lumber supply houses my favorite is Schaller hard woods [i think thats how it is spelled] they have great sheet goods and any hard wood you could want and some sheet goods are cheaper than the box store. But my best deal for oak, walnut and cedar is the pevely fle market there is a consignment booth in there building that an old boy from the sticks sells 4s wood CHEAP like a 8"x1"x9'  walnut bord for $5.00 this was as of last fall hopefully he will be back this year.

Thanks for all your plugs so far guys, I will be adding these outfits to our Lumber Resources page. Anyone else?

Good Morning John,

Funny you should ask this question for my favorite lumber dealer is myself for I have a wide variety of lumber to buy from and I am in the process of getting some nice hard White Maple ready to send Larry Jenkins. He is purchasing 18 BF of it at $2.75 plus my packaging price for a total of $60.00 and when ready I will contact him with the size and weight for him to place a pick up order via UPS Ground. The shipping cost will be within reason for some quality lumber. All of my lumber is kiln dried and FAS (First and Second) grade which is 83.3% clear.

Hello All,

I agree with Fred and Ron for Frank Miller has a good supply of African Mahogany at only $6.00 per BF. Otherwise I use my own supply of lumber for the things I build as I have a good supply of various lumber to find on the market and all is kiln dried and cabinet and furniture grade stock. My Black Walnut is only $4.00 per board foot while my quarter sawn white oak is only $3.50 for 4/4 stock.

For Hardwood, I usually go visit the Amish around the area.    There is one, corner of Rt 68 & cr. 113, that I used for quite awhile.   Hochstetler's Lumber.   About 5 miles north of Bellefountaine, Ohio.

This is the one I use most.  All domestic lumber.

Azbill's Sawmill Company, Inc.
I-40 at Exit 101 Southside
Cedar Grove, TN

This one is for BB ply and some non domestic lumber.

Sadly my favorite for exotics is no more

Colco Fine Wood and Tools

John Moody  here is a sheet goods dealer in Nashville.  I haven't used them but have heard good things about their product.
