December 29, 201015 yr Do you have to do anything to lacquer to make it food safe or is it food safe right on the wood? I know I have seen this somewhere but can't seem to remember. Â I seem to be having that problem a lot more these days.John Hechel said: Thank you John, I made a simple rectangular pattern that I can use with multiple outer shapes. yes it is walnut finished with lacquerJohn Moody said: Hey John, that is alright. December 29, 201015 yr Author John, I have read numerous times that all film finishes, once dry, are food safe. Many people/manufacturers use lacquer for tables, utensil handles, bottle stoppers and many other items used in and around food prep areas. So I have no concern about food safety issues, durability is where I have uncertanties.
