January 9, 201115 yr I have been spraying lacquer for years and I like the results it gives me. It gives me a good finish and it's fast drying. The part I didn't like was the fog that it put in the air with my old conventional spray guns. No, I do not have a spray booth.I broke down and purchased a little earlex (I think I spell'd that right) , and I put it to use yesterday. For a $300.00 HVLP, it is awsume. I have never used a high dollar HVLP to compare. All I can say is the fog is gone, the odor doesn't seem as strong...............and the finish is better...........in my opinion. If anyone of you sprays lacquer........maybe even other finishes.........and you have an extra $300.00....you may want to concider one of these.Oh ya...........I pondered the purchase till I seen the video by the woodwhisperer. I think it's on you tube.Â
January 9, 201115 yr Author Ron.............I wish ya wouldn't have asked that question. When I was signing up with this forum, john moody informed me about the 5% donations to the WWP from some suppliers. Well...............I had JUST ordered my HVLP maybe a couple of days prior, and I told him about my order from woodcraft...................that when he told me they were one of the supporters.I think I said something like "crud"!!!! That was/is a large dollar order for me and would have made a nice donation.
January 9, 201115 yr Gary what were you using as an HVLP gun previously. I have the Woodriver version from WoodCraft. Just wonder what you were using. When I got mine I really had no idea what the differences were. Still don't for that matter. I am pretty happy with this one, but it is the only one I have used so I don't have anything to compare to. Sounds like you got a great gun. Shoot I wish you lived closer so we could compare.
January 9, 201115 yr Oops. Well maybe the rest of us can learn from your error. Gary Heltemes said:Ron.............I wish ya wouldn't have asked that question. When I was signing up with this forum, john moody informed me about the 5% donations to the WWP from some suppliers. January 9, 201115 yr Author Come on Ron...........it weren't my error. I wasn't a member of the forum yet, plus I had no idea of the partnership between american woodwoorker and the WWP supporters.But...............that does bring to mind another question. When I order again from a supporting business.............how do they know I am a member of AWW???? I don't think that was explained to me and I sure haven't seen it anywhere in my reading. Thanks, gary
January 9, 201115 yr I concede your point. You know Gary I really have no idea how the sites know. There may be a code or something. That's a good question to pose to John. About the sprayer.....How many ounces will it hold. I have a quart HVLP but want a small one for small projects.Gary Heltemes said: Come on Ron...........it weren't my error. January 9, 201115 yr If you are ordering online, come to our forum here and at the top there is a tab that says "Support TAW" When you click on that tab you will see Our Affiliates, click on that and select one of the participating vendors. You will go to their web site and make the purchase just like always, but it will show them you came to them from our site. They will figure the commission and credit it to the site so we can send it to WWP. It is pretty simple and all you have to do is go to their site from ours. Thanks for thinking about us and I know you already had that one on order when we were trying to get you signed up. Just keep us in mind in the future. There are no hard feelings from us if you can't. Â
January 9, 201115 yr Author Cheeez John..........I don't know how I missed your message.I've always used the old conventional. I don't know what the proper name is........but I call it a fogger. After using it..........I can't see from one end of my shop to the other. This new one is the earlex.       n i c e !!!!And Ron.............It's a one quart capacity.
January 9, 201115 yr So the one you have before had the cup below the gun. I hope I can find someone that can compare the two. Woodcraft has a video on their site about the WoodRiver gun. It looks like it sets up like any other gun. I am sure there is something that makes a gun more or less expensive, I just don't know what that is. I love spraying finish though and want to get better and faster at it. My shop is a two car garage. I had to spray a couple of cedar chest for Christmas. I have a roll of plastic and I put it across the rails for the garage door. Put a piece of conduit across the rails at the back and draped plastic from it. Took some OSB, cut a hole in it for my box fan and raised the door, placed the OSB in the door, turned on the fan and when about spraying. Worked pretty good as a make shift booth and it kept anything that did over spray inside.Gary Heltemes said:Cheeez John..........I don't know how I missed your message.I've always used the old conventional. January 9, 201115 yr Author I'm very fortunate that I have a dedicated shop seperate from my home. I was really without a shop for 20+ yrs and about 4 yrs ago I had a shop built. I figured I had one more chance for the shop of my dreams. I did it..........and I think I done it right.Sorry to get off on this tangent.Oh ya..........I was tell'n ya about my shop cuz I can go out an stink it up and it don't bother nobody. :-)
January 9, 201115 yr Iknow that feeling. My is separate from the house also. For the most part no one goes in there but me. Every now and then the boys will borrow a tool, but I have tried to get them their own so they don't have to use mine.  The way it is I can work on something till I get tired, go in and leave everything and it will be just like I left it when I get back.
