It might just be our local store, but I was at Home Depot this afternoon and they had the Porter Cable 892 router, regular 189.00 on sale for 99.00.

 

Not as good of a deal as the Work Sharp, but still a good price if you are looking for a stationary router.

 

 

Was it a variable speed?  And will it fit 690 bases?

I do know it was varible speed, not sure about the base. I'll see what I can find out.

I own one of these. It does share the same base as the 690 according to Porter Cable's website. It is a variable speed, 2 1/4  that fits both 1/4 and 1/2 inch bits.It is a very good ( my opinion ) router. Classified as a medium sized  hand help / stationary. I have mine monted in my table and bought the 893 combo kit for bench work etc.

I've been looking for a variable speed for some time now and didn't want to give up all my 690 stuff.

 

Next maybe I'll look for a colt!!!
