January 18, 201115 yr Okay, I have no idea how to describe what I am looking for or maybe I just dreamed this. I am looking for a screw that you hang cabinets that has a washer that is cupped on the back side to keep from pulling the head of the screw through the back of the cabinet. I have been to two different fastner places today and they have no idea what I am talking about. I know they make a screw with a larger flat head, but I have seen these with the cupped washer. Anyone have any idea what I am talking about and what you call them. I need to have a cabinet that has a thin back in it and I want to use that combination so it will have a little more bite and not pull the head of the screw through. Â
January 19, 201115 yr How many do ya want????? I sell'm. What I have are a washer head screw and they come in sizes up to 3". Without going out to measure the head....it has to be at least 3/8" or larger. We refer to them as installation screws. Zinc plated, course thread, with a T17 self tapping thread............., and I believe they are a #2 square drive.I think I also have them in white and almond.
January 19, 201115 yr Author Thanks Gene. I guess the guy at our Lowes didn't know they carried them. Gary I had no idea you sold screws. I'll check with you next time. I picked up one that will work but wasn't what I was looking for. Thanks for your input.
January 19, 201115 yr You can just put a trim washer on any screw and use that. Check mcfeely's for trim washers.
January 19, 201115 yr Author All of the ones I saw on McFeely's just has a larger flat head. I have googled and haven't found what I think I was looking for. The ones I have seen used are a sliver washer that is cupped and the screw sits in the washer. The washer is larger than the screws with the larger head. It gives more surface when the back is thin so the head won't pull through. I am hanging a cabinet Ironing board for LOML. The problem I ran into is it will not go between the studs in the place where she wants to hang it. I would have to tear all the sheet rock down and re-frame the wall to put this where she wants it. So we decided to just surface mount it. I put some blocking in the wall and just wanted to use something inside the cabinet that looked a little more finished than just the screw head showing. I know this sounds ridiculous, but that is the way I am.  I have seen what I am looking for somewhere, but the guy at Lowe's had no idea what was talking about. I only need eight or ten to hang this cabinet.Â
January 19, 201115 yr That's a trim washer.  OR    You could also use a fender washer on the screw to widen the holding area.  I use these  and use a fender washer for 4 or more.  Just hold up ironing board on wall, mark holes, install these, then put fenderwashers on screws then screw in. They're really strong in just sheetrock.  The nice thing about them is if you hit a stud (like you originally wanted to) they will just spin and won't go in, that way you know you hit a stud and haven't damaged the wall that much.
January 19, 201115 yr Author Your the best Mike. The trim washer was what I had seen and I couldn't for the life of me come up with that. I tried everything but it in my search. dragon1 said: That's a trim washer.
January 20, 201115 yr John.............just for the heck of it.............I caliper'd the head on one of my instalation screws today. They are just shy of 1/2".If I can make a suggestion.............call a cabinet shop or 5 in your village and ask if they use installation screws to mount their cabinets. And if that don't work..............get me your address............I'll ship ya a few.............for free this time.      Hehehehe
January 20, 201115 yr Author Gary thanks for the offer. I was told at one of the outlets for fastners that I went to that what you are recommending is what all the cabinet shops are using. I guess I am a little OCD and I had something on my mind that I had seen and couldn't find it and it was driving me mad. I actually picked up some of the installations screws when I couldn't find the trim washer, but then I was on a mission to find what I was looking for. I will keep you in mind in the future though. Thanks for your help. Gary Heltemes said:John.............just for the heck of it.............I caliper'd the head on one of my instalation screws today.
