Well I like buying in so many different places, depending on the species of wood I'm needing. I'm not much on shopping at the "big box" stores. I like working with Spanish Cedar, Cypress, and Red Oak. When I travel down to Louisiana I try to load up on Cypress and Spanish Cedar. Red Oak I get at a local privately owned saw mill and run it through my Shopsmith planer. My favorite lumber yard is a small locally owned store. They know us by name and they try to accomodate the customer as much as possible. The name of that yard is Smith Builders, here in Dunlap, Tn.

Can't help you out on this one. I haven't found one yet.

Sears Trostel in Ft. Collins, CO is a good dealer that carries many species of hardwood and plywood.

Reel Lumber, in Riverside, CA, is the best. They have a wide selection of good woodworking woods, they know their stuff, and are always helpful. They are my "go-to" lumber yard.

My best place to purchase cypress in Louisiana is Specialty Lumber Ser.  PO Box 306, Maringouin, La. 70757 Tel. 225-625-2396 e-mail sales@specialtylumber.net and my local lumber company is Smith Home Ctr. 16584 Rankin Ave. Dunlap, Tn. 37327. Ph #423-949-4649. I'm in the process of trying to build a garden arbor for my grape vines to grow on. This is my first building project since my injury. Hopefully the weather will clear up tomorrow so I can try to work outside. This would be good for my sanity. lol.

Been using Friendship Hardwoods for about 5 years. Building custom stairs for highend homes, quality lumber is a necessity, knots, colored streaks, etc. are a no-no. Since we started used them as our supplier, I've found that more wood goes into the dust collector from jointing, ripping, and milling of components, than goes out to the burn pile from cutting out knots, streaks, etc.
