February 3, 201115 yr My shop is in my unheated garage and lately, I have not done much in there at all. The last 2 nights we have had -17 and -12. The temperature in my shop went down to 34 and I had removed any liquids. I also put a light inside my glue and finishes cabinet. I saw that most of the US is in worse shape than we are, we have little snow and no ice. How are you guys holding up?
February 4, 201115 yr Ron.........I built my shop about 5 yrs ago and I wanted to go 1st class. I put heat in the floor, so it's warm all the time, even the other day when we had -30.That said, this last storm missed us for the most part so far as snow. But we got the cold. But, the cold has gone again and we were up to a balmy +35 today/ OooooooEeeeeeeee!!!! We only have another 2 months of winter ahead of us.
February 4, 201115 yr Yikes !! I thought the fine whine yesterday about my shop conditions was worth printing ! Today much better here but still ice all day long sitting in the sun .
February 4, 201115 yr Sounds like it's time to put a woodburning stove in that garage. Or a gas fired garage heater.
February 4, 201115 yr I got just one question Lewis, Did you get a picture?Lewis Kauffman said: Not too bad here, now, but the other day I did see a witch fly by wearing a fur lined bra
February 4, 201115 yr Author Don't know about global warming but, was so cold . . .we had to chop up the piano for firewood - but we only got two chords. The American Woodworker said: So, how's that Global Warming working out for yall!
February 4, 201115 yr -2 here in east central Indiana tonight. Thanks to Nicolai Tesla its 64 in the shop.
February 4, 201115 yr Ron, that is bad....funny, but bad. Ron Altier said: Don't know about global warming but, was so cold . . .we had to chop up the piano for firewood - but we only got two chords. The American Woodworker said: So, how's that Global Warming working out for yall!
February 4, 201115 yr I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket so I didn't have anything to work on the band saw That even tickled me!  It has been a week or more since I was in the shop. I have gas heat, but the utility bills are high enough just heating the house. Gene Howe said: Groan! I keyed in on that one right away. It didn't fall flat with me. Very punny! Now that the piano's in the wood burner, what are you doing while the glue dries? And, how in the world can you accurately tension the band saw without the piano?Ron Altier said:
February 4, 201115 yr Author John, I always thought that electricity and gas were cheapest in the midwest. Electricity because it was made from coal. During the winter months in Ohio, my worst gas bill would go up to about $180 and electricty would be about $80. Most people's bills were much higher, my house was well insulated and I had a 96% effecient gas furnace. Here in Colorado my combined gas and electric bills during the coldest months has only been $150. A very plesant surprise.John Moody said: I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket so I didn't have anything to work on the band saw That even tickled me!  It has been a week or more since I was in the shop. February 4, 201115 yr Ron, I have a fairly new heat pump with Gas backup, but the house is an older home. My total bill with water, waste water electric, gas was 565.00 so the shop has been off. That is one of the highest bills we have ever had that is just how cold it has been here. We just don't usually stay cold for long periods of time like it has this winter. I love the four seasons, and I am ready for the change to spring. Ron Altier said: John, I always thought that electricity and gas were cheapest in the midwest. February 5, 201115 yr Yes you can tune a fish, just need the right kind of bait. I saw our Mayor go by the house, he had his hands in his OWN pockets.  Shop was closed down back in November.  No heat in the old steel pole barn.  You know it's too bleeding cold when your hands shake enough they out-do the sanders. dragon1 said:I thought you could tune a bandsaw but you couldn't tune a fish?
