February 17, 201115 yr  Instead of throwing away those broken, dull and kinked blades, re-use them!   Cut the blade to a nice usable length ( I use 12") and gang a bunch together.    Now you have a nice rasp, or even a float for detail work.    I've used as few as five piecs, and as many as 25.   Tape the two ends toegether, alternate the teeth pattern a bit.  If you have a fine tooth blade, you now have a fine tooth rasp.   Those coarse resaw blades?   You will have a coarse rasp.   Just a couple blade pieces, taped together, and you can get into all sorts of tight places, like around a chair arm joint. Whether you set it up as a "push" , or a "pull" cut, is up to whichway you happen to grab your new rasp. Besides, it saves those blades from the landfill, now don't it?
February 18, 201115 yr Never thought of that Steve! Great idea, what do they say, necessity is the mother of all inventions? So, what happened that day you figured this one out, loose your rasp? Break your float? Or what happens to me on a regular basis, at the end of the pay period and your money is gone, and you really needed that!
February 21, 201115 yr Author Nah, I just needed a narrow rasp for some consoles I was making for a truck's interior.   Rather than throw away a few old B&D bandsaw blades that were too short for my Craftsman Three wheeler, I just cut them up.   I've got about three of those short blades left, might just cut them up as well.  All three are the fine tooth, "scroll" type of blades.  And yes, I still have all my other "regular" rasps on hand.
