February 18, 201115 yr It is my honor, and my pleasure to tell the world that one of our own members Rob Durfos and his business will be featured in an upcoming issue of Woodshop News Magazine! The talent we have on The American Woodworker never ceases to amaze me, and Rob Durfos is one of those guys that just seems to have the world by its tail when it comes to his woodworking business and the clients he serves. Apparently so much so, that a major publication has taken interest in Rob's work and the way he runs his business. I have been to Robs shop (Tule Peak Timber) tucked away in the foot hills of Aguanga in Southern California. And I can say without a doubt, his recognition is warranted to say the least. I remember the first day my wife and I drove up to Robs place, the long dirt driveway, a slow crawl up the road and as I rounded the corner I caught a glimpse of his sawmill with hundreds of massive logs laying about. I felt I was in heaven. Upon Rob's warm welcome he immediately asked my wife and I if we wanted a tour of his shop, and the grounds. Within a minute we were looking at his beautiful works in progress. And we were introduced to his assistant Ray, a really nice down to earth man who is quick with a smile, and armed with the saying of the day. Not only does Rob make world class mill works, custom doors, tables and slab furnishings, the man knows how to put a shop together. If he can't find a tool or jig that he needs to get the job done, he makes it. Now for the big kicker, Rob will be the first to tell you, he has only been woodworking for 5 years! So, with that, I leave you all to give Rob a big ATTABOY and a pat on the back. Way to go Rob! Your recognition is well deserved, and well placed. Please keep us informed of the progress of your big interview and please let us know what issue you'll be featured in. Â Below is just a small example of Robs millworks produced from his Tule Peak Timber operation. Â
February 18, 201115 yr John,I too marvel at his work and planning for most everything he makes and I also congratulate him for his ingenuity. I have admired his work for quite a while and like the picture above his skills in the Art of Woodworking stand out amoungst the best of woodworkers.Due to his use of finger joints there is now a piece of machinery that makes the connections much easier, however it is out of my price range at this time.
February 18, 201115 yr Hey Jim,How is your son getting along these days is he back in school yet and receiving his GI bill support while attending school?Just wondering if we need to make another video in his behalf.
February 18, 201115 yr Hi Gang,And thank you for the nice words. As John indicated, the article when it does happen, is a ways off. I've been visited by a writer and yes, they are interested in some of my business aspects and what I do with the natural reclaimed wood that is around here. I feel very flattered and we shall see where this goes.
