I took on a fixer-upper job for a fella that I go to church with. I have not used a lathe in 20 yrs and I figured this would be a simple enough project to attempt. I reproduced the long spindle under the bowl.

To begin with......the bottom of the old broken spindle had a 3/4" threaded dowel fastening it to the base. I searched the internet and found threraded dowel. I had no idea if this would be the same threads per inch or not, see'ns how I was working on an antique. It was the same thread..........I was and am happy.

So, I got a 2"x2" square block about 14"-15" long. Bored a 3/4" hole in the center of one end and 1/2" hole in the other end to attach the bowl. Then chucked this up in nova chucks..................and went to work. Oh ya..............I was using a friends lathe. I gotta have one of those.Grin.gif Turning was fun.

I took one photo of this thing and I have no idea as to what it is or what it's purpose could be. Do any of you have an explaination???? It's to big for a beer stien. There ain't no drain for it to be a planter. Not big enough for a bath tube..........but close. Maybe it's a salad bowl????

I don't have a clue what it other than a whatjamacallit, but I am impressed with the repair. Excellent job on the spindle turning. Yep you got to get a lathe for sure.

Nice job Gary, I am sure the person you the repair was done for was excited that you put it back together.
