February 25, 201115 yr Yep, that's right, I don't like them. They are too pointy, too out of place, and too gaudy. Thank goodness I am talking about my rocker ears! I deviated from the original design, and I don't like what I came up with, I just freehanded the ears on and free shaped it by hand. I like the smoother continuous head rest much better for this type of chair. Tomorrow I will brake out my hand saw and cut em off and shape the top of the headrest back to a more graceful design that compliments the chair. I am in the experiential stages of creating a design that is unique to my style. There are going to be many oops, and changes in the coming chairs. Â The pic below is my new design, soon to revert back to the original design. The following picture is the original design, much more graceful and flowing I feel. So, off with the ears! Thanks for looking folks
February 25, 201115 yr Nice! That could be the Batman chair. You could echo the upward swoop of the armrest as viewed in the 2nd picture. In other words, keep the "ears" but make them subtle and follow the curve the armrests make when viewed straight on.
February 25, 201115 yr Personally, I like both, but maybe your style the best. Far be it from me to make suggestions cuz I probly kan't spel rock'n chare................but maybe rounding the tips of the ears..................just a wee bit.
February 25, 201115 yr Naw, leave them on!!! It looks like you could sell it as Batman's rocking chair!!! LOL.
February 25, 201115 yr The way I read the feedback is that the majority favor leaving the ears...........and the sub-majority favor rounding. Just remember..........what ya cut off..........is off!!!!
February 25, 201115 yr Author I am thinking guys, I am thinking, this is one those moments that requires a ton of reflection, and your feedback and ideas, I like lowering the ears, I could shape them down, the worse that could happen is I still don't like them and I can still remove them. But as Gary says, once they are off, they are off! Thanks for the feedback guys, keep it coming please!
February 25, 201115 yr Author Another thing, I chose the head rest pieces because I thought the knots would give it character, do you guys agree, or do you prefer a clean non knotty surface in your custom furnishings? Thanks for the feedback.
February 25, 201115 yr leave the knots for character as long as they don't affect the integrity of the chair. I still think it looks like Batmans head!! LOL!!!
February 26, 201115 yr JohnIs there enough wood up there to just round them off completely? I like the slope oof the back and if you could round things of, shorter more like nubs then ears? It could be subtile and graceful all together. Lot's of hane work but might be worth it in the long rung. To help explain a little better something like a rook (chess piece) not high or promounced, just something subtile?Best wishes and keep us posted please. WayneÂ
February 26, 201115 yr I agree I like knots. I think they are fine and don't detract from the piece. It looks custom not manufactured.
