February 26, 201115 yr Well I just got back from the woodworking show out here in Somerset, NJ. Went with my friend John (a Contractor and a friend), we go every year. Lots to see and check out, also I had a few questions to ask a few of the vendors. There were some deals on just about all the tool dealers (Makita, Dewalt, Bosch, Delta to name a few) but not enough to make me bite. I didn’t see any really new tools or innovations that I hadn’t seen before but it did make me rethink my stock of tools and toys. The only 3 tools I didn’t have were the Junior CNC Carving machine, the Wood-Mizer Sawmill and a Crown moulding cutting aid. Now mind you, the carving machine started at around 2,000 ( For the SMALL one) Too much money right now. The Sawmill started at 3,000 (Was worth it but again, no money) I already know how to cut crown moulding and didn’t need a guide. So I picked up some Burr bits for my Dremel and three different sizes of tapered plug cutters and some flux brushes(glue brushes) for a cabinetmaker friend of mine. There weren’t any deals to speak of except for the plug cutters (Snappy) and the guy gave me the three sizes I needed and only 2 bucks more than a prepackaged set with the ¼ inch size (which I didn’t need) and you know the separate plug cutters run a lot more than the sets. For that, next time I need plug cutters, I’m going to Snappy. I didn’t really see any deals other than 20% off (Which is the normal price) any of the tools and I guess that was because of the economy but Dang, they ALL should have had a “Economy Special†going on. I mean, I appreciate when someone gives me a break, especially when it’s rough like now. That’s how businessmen used to get and KEEP customers. Customer loyalty used to be a standard, not a Whim. I still remember every lumber, landscape supply, greenhouse, tree equipment, ETC. ETC. ETC. that gave me their time and expertise to make my job ( and estimates) that much easier. And I gave them my business. And that goes for the small town hardware store AND the big guys too. How about you? Â
February 26, 201115 yr Mike, I remember the deals from the vendors, and I remember the sales folks that went that extra mile to make me happy. They think we don't remember their generosity, far from the truth. I remember the equipment rental outfit that gave me two extra days for one day down time I had on a Ditch Witch. They really only needed to give me a day free for the busted machine that was not my doing, but they wanted to make an impression and gave me an extra day on top. Those kind of dealers and outfits I remember. Thanks for the great report regarding your wood show experience. Out of sight!
February 26, 201115 yr Good Morning Mike,This year I bought a finger joint bit for my router table with a 1/2" shank for my 3 horse Porter Cable router mounted in my Mast R Lift and it sure is nice to change bits from on top of the table. Using the crank you can adjust and tweek the bits right on the money and saving a piece of the trim for a set up block for the next time I need to duplicate the trim.
