Woodturning Road Trip today.

Featured Replies

Heading to Athens, Alabama this morning to attend a Woodturning club meeting. I have met a few guys on another forum and found out they live just down the road a piece, so it is off to their place today to learn and share some woodturning.

I know they are having a project day and turning pens for the troops.

Maybe I can get them to check in over here after attending today.

See you all later this afternoon.  Off to make shavings!!!!

Enjoy you day and bring back many tales.

If Ken Ferrel is there check out his Woodchuck pen pro.  I am really wanting to order one but I would like an opinion from some one I trust.  If you haven't seen them they are supposed to be the cats meow for pen turning.  It is similar to the EWT rougher.

I hope you have a good day.

Right on John! Have a wonderful day my friend. And please spread the word about our forum! Your mingling with like minded woodworkers at that show, turning pens for troops, and we support The Wounded Warrior Project!

Looking forward to your report John when you return.

Well guys, sorry for the delay in responding.

I have a great day getting to meet some guys in my area that were putting together a wood turning club. They have actually met a couple of time already and this we the third meeting I believe. Got to tell you up front, I didn't write down name and I can't remember many of their names, but a great bunch of guys.

There are working on Turning Pens for Troops. Here are some of the pens they got turned on Saturday.

Several of them brought their lathes and were all sharing in the fun.

ning-turningclub1-49116-90.jpgI think that is the only picture I might be in and I am behind the guy at the lathe. It was his shop and a nice one it was. His name was Greg.

I looked at several of the ones he had with him and they are nice. He is cheaper than the EWT line. I left him my card to call me when he gets in some round cutters like the EWT finisher. He is about half price on the cost of the cutters so I am going to get some as soon as he gets them in.

I had a great time, I didn't turn a pen, I couldn't stay long but look forward to going back and meeting with them next month.

That was wonderful John! Thanks for the pictures and great report! Looks like a great time had by all, and that shop looks wonderful.

Thanks
