New Yankee Workshop Tall Clock Plans

Featured Replies

Have any of you purchased plans for Norm Abrams tall clock???? A friend of mine got the plans and the clock works for this QSWO tall clock...............and in our opinion.............they are a very screwed up set of plans.  I've worked with purchased plans before and there's a cut list, there are demensioins, there are good diagrams. Not here. Some dimensions were given, but the calculator had to come out to arrive at a final answer for some parts. The real kicker is/was below the clock face on the rail, that has a 3/8" rabit for the glass door. I don't know if I can  explain , but...........all material is 3/4". The stiles are mortised for the tenons on the rails. These are 1/4" mortises an tenons........centered. So.....1/4" shoulder, 1/4" tenon, 1/4" shoulder.  Well............when you cut that 3/8" rabit, that is 1/2 your thickness and ends up cutting that tenon  down to 1/8". Even in the video supplied, you can see a black hole in there, where tenon is suppose to be.

We did on our second try, a seat of the pants remedy.

Has anyone else built this thing??? I'm interested what you did and how you liked the plans??? Or maybe any other of norms plans????

I've got one of Norm's books.    I based a bench on the "plan" in the book.    On Norm's website, there is a "comments" section.    Maybe a trip there might be in order.

Steve...........I went to "new yankee workshop" and did not find a comments section. I googled "norm abrams" and all kinds of sites show up, but did not see anything with comments.

If anyone is intersted........it is plan #0405.

I may be stepping on a lot of toes because he has quite a following. But...........it is what it is.

When I get some time tody, I'll go take a look.     I seem to recall an "Ask Norm" section.

Gary I have only purchased one setup of plans from there and they were fine. It has been a while and I think I found one error in a dimension that was printed on the drawing and on the cut list. Other than that is all worked out fine.

If you go to www.newyankee.com you can then click on FAQ and search for 0405 and it will tell you if anyone else has ask a question about that plan. For some reason I had in my mind they had a place where they listed corrections, but I may be wrong.

I think this is the link.

Hope this helps out.

Hey.......thanks guys. I did finally find a place on new yankee and asked the question. Now if I hear back from them.

I'm sure my buddy is not the only one to run into this problem, but I did not see another question related to our problem.

Other than that...........it is an awsume clock............and may even build one for myself someday.
