March 14, 201115 yr Well I'm real close, the price and specs of the Grizzly G0548Z - 2HP DC is looking very tempting. The Canadian buck is up from US and I can drive down to Bellingham, WA and pick up (45min drive) price is around $375 with tax in, plus a few more dollars likely. Any comments guys, your input is always welcomed.
March 14, 201115 yr Greg, I don't know anything bad about the Grizzly DC but I also am not real familiar with it either. I have the Delta. The G0548Z looks like a good unit and I would think it would do a really good job. My Delta is only 1 1/2 hp so just looking at the specs the G0548Z looks good.
March 14, 201115 yr Author John, I had my eye on the canister delta 1.5, but I am looking at $800, so just out of range, it gets great reviews of all the 1.5 in it's class.
March 15, 201115 yr I can't vouch for that DC Greg, but I can vouch for my DC a G1029Z2 and it works great! It really sucks. So I guess what I am saying is, I would recommend Grizz without hesitation.
March 15, 201115 yr Author NIce, problem I am having is the size... my shop is 16x12, have thought about expanding, that would get wood supply, compressor and some other items out of the way of 'making things area'. It would be silly not to get a 2hp for a 1hp that is smaller in size. Will work something out. tks
March 15, 201115 yr Author John, what other essentials do you think I need for the G0548Z? Like elbows, attachments for vacuum... I've been shuffling the shop around and think I have figured out how to squeeze it in until I add more room in summer/fall.
March 15, 201115 yr Are you going to just connect it to one machine at a time or are you going to run ductwork and connect to several machines and use blast gates? I ran PVC pipe in my shop to connect all of my machines and put in blast gates to open up the machine I am using. You will need a certain amount of flexible hose in the size the machine requires such as 4" or 2 1/2". I don't remember the size of the inlet on the G0548Z but you want to run the main trunk as large as you can. Where you hook up the flexible you will need fastners to squeeze it on. You want long radius 90 and "Y's". Try to stay away from "T's". You will probably need some reducers but that depends on what you are connecting. Â
March 16, 201115 yr Author It has two outputs, one definitely to the table saw, the other to the chop saw. More portable units after those two like sanding and routing. Man is that going to be a treat to have a pretty much dust free shop for the most part! Unit has a 6" outlet, then spits to three 4" ports. This triple connector is removable. What would you suggest for a basic start? tks john
March 16, 201115 yr Greg, I would probably remove the split tee and may a connection to the 6" port. Run 6" pvc drain pipe for your main run and if you can all the way to the drop off point on the tool. The reduce down to 4" flex to connect to the tools that have a 4" port. Â I have a run alone the wall here and then another one across the ceiling and then drop off to my tools. Â Here it drops down from the ceiling. Â
March 18, 201115 yr Author Well, I am the proud owner of a DUST COLLECTOR!!!!!!!! Yes!!Did get the Grizzly 2HP with canister. Thing is build like a tank, travelled to Bellingham, WA to pick up, great service, got to boader, no problem, just had to pay HST and that was it. Put together last night, no problem, bag is a little tricky, but there are little hooks that temporarily hold it in place until the spring clamp is put on. Thanks for all your advice again guys.
March 18, 201115 yr Author This is great John, just realize your photos, picked up hosing while in US, will get it all going and then think about where to run solid lines. You look about as crowded as me.
March 18, 201115 yr Author John, for the smaller units like routers, do you just hook your vacuum up to them, my router has a 13/4"
