Greetings from the Ozarks,

My name is Dan Wyatt and was invited to this forum by Bob Kloes who is a friend of mine. I am 62 and have been married to my bride for going on 40 years and we have one son who is 30.

My experiences in working with wood began some 55+ years ago in my Grandfather Moore's porch swing mfg. company. I grew up in a small town in SW MO and Grandpa's small mfg. company was only a few blocks from where I lived and I would go over there and watch Grandpa and when he had extra time we would build very simple projects together. I then took 4 years of shop in high school, choose wood as an emphasis in college within a comprehensive major of Industrial Tech, and then went on to teach Industrial Tech (woods, metals, drafting, power mechanics, etc) with an emphasis on woodworking from 1970-1985. Also years ago I co-owned Ozark Mountain Tackle with my brother Phil and we manufactured wooden fishing lures called Woodchoppers for 9 years. I have also owned a couple of other small mfg. companies over the years mostly dealing with recycling.

I designed and built every stick of a 2 story gambrel 2000 sq.' barn type work shop about 23 years ago in our back yard and then designed and built a cross-gable (L shaped) building some 8 years ago that that also sets in our back yard and I do most of my woodworking in it. I collect and restore vintage wood and metalworking machinery, vintage hand tools, etc. and for the most part have both shops outfitted with machinery of the WWII and earlier era.

Although I have been around "shop" related subject matter most of my life, I still enjoy learning.

I founded www.owammos.com and http://usdisabledvets.com/index.html

Thanks ~ Dan

Welcome ,looking forward to seeing some of your projects.

Excellent Dan! It sure is a pleasure having you here. Thanks for the introduction, I enjoyed reading every bit of it. Especially making the swings with Grand Dad. Thank for a wonderful snap shot of your life.

Your website OWAMMOS is a great place to visit, thanks for telling us about it. I'd encourage all to check it out.

Thanks again Dan for being here and giving us the once over. Hope to see you around these parts in the future.

Dan.......SW Mo brings back memories to me. Many years ago I was headed back to montana from duncan Ok, with a side trip over by a little town of Neosho ( probably didn't spell that right ) to pick up a jag of hardwood lumber from a small saw mill down there. Yup.........that sure brings back memories.

Hey...........welcome to the forum.

Hello Dan! Really glad you joined up. This is a great group of people here.

Now let me tell you all a bit more about the Dan I know. He has a great set of shops, wood and metal. He probably has forgotten more then I ever knew about either of those . He has been a great contributor to both the owwm sites and I am sure he will be here also. If you have questions about restoring machines, he is by far the most knowledgeable person I know. Hopefully you all can take a look at the www.owammos.com

He has some great pictures of his shops and the get togethers that they have for the owammos are awesome. He is a true patriot in all ways . Just a top shelf guy in my book. I am very glad to call him my friend. bob

Yup...well I guess, I will have to find another way to express myself and not use the smile faces!

Hi Dan. I enjoyed your introduction. I'll thank you in advance for all of your input, and advice, and expertise in these fine subjects of woodworking. Thnx a bunch. Look forward to more learning

Oh, and, thnx for the OWAMMOS link.    Looks very interesting

Thanks to all for the kind words and welcomes.

Richard ........ I will try to post pics of projects later

John............. Thanks for founding this forum .......great job ........thanks also for the welcome

Charles ........ Thanks

Gary............. Neosho is 25 miles south of me. I live in Carthage, MO (old Route 66 Hiway goes through town)

Bob ............. Thanks for all of the kind words ....... are you sure you have the right person....... ho ho!

RMK ............ I like your "scooter" in your avatar. I'm still "old school" in that I have several vintage Triumphs, Nortons, a few BSAs, etc. This makes my 46th year of riding. As for my woodworking and tech skills...I mentioned that I'm still learning myself and enjoy new topics.

I will try to post more later plus discuss the OWAMMO's Gathering further if anyone is interested in hearing about it......... we have a blast twice a year and hope some of you can come join us sometime and if you wish bring your family as Branson has a lot for them to do also.

Thanks Again ~ Dan

Bob and Silent Bob,

Thanks to the both of you for the welcomes.

1st Bob .......... supposedly age is just a number ...... ya right .......

I don't know of a Wyatt in our family that was killed in MD in the 60s.

Welcome Dan!

You live in a beautiful part of the country. My Wife's Dad's family lives in Missouri in Sprinfield and Bolivar which is 30 miles north of Springfield. My wife and I make the trip to Carthage whenever we get back that way as we love the "Precious Moments Park and Chaple" there. We almost moved out to the Springfield area back in 1990 but God had other plans for us, so we are still here in So. Calif.

Hi Allen,

You mentioned Springfield ......... I lived there from 1967 to when I graduated from Southwest Missouri State (which is now is Missouri State University) in 1971.

As for Carthage.........We live only a few miles from Precious Moments.

If you ever get in our neck of the woods please throw out the anchor as it sounds like we are Christian brothers and I can appreciate your statement about "God had other plans........."

Take Care ~ Dan

Dan,

Christian Brother, yes. I have generations of Baptists on my Mom's side and Presbyterians and Quakers on my Dad's side. I was one of this kids that was born on Saturday and in church on Sunday and have been there ever since. My wife's folks retired and moved to Bolivar where my father in law grew up and still has family there. We loved the area and could of sold our condo and moved back and paid cash for a house on a few acres and plenty of money in the bank to help us live on and pay for college as my wife would have had to take some classes to teach in Missouri. But like I said, God did have other plans and moved us into different areas of ministry. We haven't been back to Missouri in about 10-11 years since my wife's parents moved from Bolivar to Yuma, AZ.

Welcome,

I have kin near you.  My wife's father lives south of Lebanon in a little burg called Falcon, Mo.  Welcome to the site!

Welcome Dan glad you could join the fun

Jim

Dan I think there are lots of Christians brothers here on this site!

So true Robert! As our forum grows, so will the diversity, as we stand now, the ratio is about 1 to 10, women to men. That might even be reflective of the outside world in the woodworking and construction trades. It sounds about right. I am looking forward to our growth, when we can have points of views from all walks reflected in our network. We have a great thing going right now, lets keep it up guys.

Dan, welcome again,

But let's not forget the reason for this forum.

And aren't you forgetting any "Christian Sisters" who may be on here?

Point well taken Robert.  I forgot the female woodworkers.
