One more new guy

Hi Gang -

My name is Phil Morris and I am from the Dallas area.  My buddy Dan Wyatt asked me to check out the group so here I am.  Dan is a guy who is hard to say no to :).

I am a luthier building a wide variety of plucked string instruments but I am mostly known for my banjo ukes sold under the brand "Spanky".  My shop features vintage US made WW machines where ever possible.  My interest in the restoration of these machines is how I met Dan.  I also do a little boat building when I catch a minute between the instruments.

I am happy to be part of the group and hope I can contribute in a positive way.

Welcome Phil...along with a rocking chair, a stringed instrument is on my to do list. My brother is a musician and guitar player,  its very interesting learning about guitars.

Hi Ron -

Thanks for the welcome.  My website is www.spankyukes.com and I threw a few pictures on this site earlier.

HI Phil,

Man I am glad you took my advice as this site seems to be a down home place to talk shop with some kind, polite, and caring people that share some of the same interests in woodworking and related subjects.

We need to get more of your Texas buddies to come aboard like Jamie, Ken, Mike J., Steve W., and the list goes on. I think that I will get on the phone tomorrow and see if I can tell a few more people about this site.

I hope that you and Bob Kloes can get together on some of that tiger striped maple he has.

Take care my friend and thanks for taking my advice.

Hi Charles -

I generally fall in the quiet category also.

Welcome Phil, You'll probably notice that I am one of the more quiet people here, but I love pen turning and even used to do a bit of boat repair (fiberglass).

Phil, welcome to the network! Great to have you aboard sir, and I hope you enjoy our site. As you can see we are a pretty new group here, we are always adding content, and hopefully someday we'll have a good membership too. Folks are joining daily now, and that is great to see, the more the merrier, we are here to discuss woodworking, and to help those that serve our country and protect our freedoms.

Thanks again Phil for coming aboard, keep coming back!

John Morris

Looked at your pics and I gotta say they are VERY Nice!!!!

Welcome aboard Phil!

Welcome Phil, I am new here myself. I really like your work I have been a cabinetmaker most my life and now my interest has move to making instruments, I am making some mountain dulcimers now but I am planning on making a older design mountain banjo maybe fret-less maybe not not sure yet, Now all I have to do is catch that mean old Tom Cat that keeps killing my little kittens and I'll be all set. Happy pickins

Joey

Welcome Phil. Man I looked at the uke's and they are awesome. I am a drummer, but I love those you are making. I wish I could play.

We are glad you all have joined us. We are new, but we are growing rapidly.

Hi Robert -

What videos and what background noise?  I checked out my website this morning and everything seems to be working properly.

That is a beautiful guitar. Although I am an accoustic builder and know little about pickups, my partner Dan builds archtops and winds his own pickups.  I am sure he could help you out but that would not be an "inexpensive" solution.

Phil,

My wife and I were enjoying the videos but that background noise has to go so the videos can be heard.

Very irritating.

Anyway, welcome.

This is my baby.  A 1953 Gibson E-250 Sunburst. I am second owner.  Original owner was Roy Helms of
Roy Helms and the Palominos
, who played around Nashville... back when.

The bottom pickup is missing.  Any inexpensive ideas?

Welcome Phil, glad to have you join us. Hope you find us a warm friendly site and check in often.

Hi Robert -

Thanks for the heads up.  It wasn't doing that for me but I need to check into it further.  Are you using Internet Explorer, Firefox or something else?

Robert M said:

Well, when I went to the page with the videos, there was "background music" on the page.  When you click on the video, it doesn't stop, it keeps on going and going and going, like the Energizer Bunny.  LOL  It "fights" with the video music.  If they were just talking it would be okay, but not two songs playing at the same time.
