Rocker Rear Legs Fit

Featured Replies

Spent a little time out in the shop tonight, and I just got in, I have the rear legs fitting nicely to the seat. This rocker is the Claro rocker.

ning-rearlegs2-48015-74.jpg?width=750The next pic is a shot of my wonderful Lie Nielsen Shoulder Plane Medium that I got a couple months ago. What a dream to use, I know I promised folks a review of it, and I will review it, we are still working on getting a comprehensive tool review area going on the site, but I might just have to jump on the review sooner.

The Medium Shoulder fit just right to clean up the dados in the legs. I cut the dados about a 64th shallow, and then trim to final depth with the shoulder plane for that perfect fit, it works wonderfully.

ning-lienielsenshoulderplane2-48015-32.jThanks for looking folks! I am catching this chair up with the other American Black Walnut chair I started a couple months ago. I want to have two complete chairs and some other items ready for an upcoming show, hopefully.

Nice chair John. I am looking forward to seeing it all come together. Do you have plans for something like this chair? I know of a couple of plans out there, like Hal Taylor. Or is this your own design? It is really nice. bob

This is the Hal Taylor Chair Bob, I couldn't have done it without Hal's help. His plans are very good, and he is just a phone call away.

This is the third chair I am doing, I find it though that I am needing to reference the plans less now, it feels good to feel like I know what I am doing now!

Someday I will make my own chair, my trademark chair, but for now, I am a student of Hal Taylor.

To see other chair builders and the plans they offer you can go to the Resources tab at the top of our site and click on Rocking Chair builders.

I understand about needing things less the more you build. It works that way for furniture. When Istarted in business, it was drawing things out and testing, now it "give me  the the size of the space you want to fill". Just a natural progression. Looking forward to seeing this done.Maybe you should do a tiger maple one someday. I am having a flame birch Windsor made by a friend of mine. I built Windsor chairs years ago. Now I am glad to have a friend do it....I have to finish it  when he is done. I look forward to that. It will be a beauty. bob

I just love getting those chair updates. Looks like this one is coming along very nicely. Love that plane. We got to get a review on it soon. I know you have been cuddling it so you have to know it intimately now and it is time to tell all.

Great job and we are looking forward to the John Morris rocker soon. There will be a place on TAW to order plans!

Looking good John...some day I'm gonna do that chair! 39.gif

Can't wait to see more.

Thanks Bob, that's true, soon it will all be right in the ol head. And I am not saying that's a good thing! Tiger Maple is way up on the list, you got any 8/4 Bob?

Thanks Josh, I can't wait to put a coat of finish on the claro, the plane is also a beaut. Thanks again

Looks good John, that claro really looks nice.  I can't wait to see what it looks like finished.

The plane looks like a very well made tool, it's hard to find nice modern hand tools like that.

Hi John. Get me a materials list and I will see what I have. I do have 12/4, 8/4,5/4 and 4/4. I am expecting a load of natural color birdseye maple next week. bob

With that kind of encouragement......maybe in the fall.39.gif
