The Model HOme Project

Featured Replies

Here's the start of the Model Home Project.  The scale, while not perfect because of proportional reasons, is 1/2" = 1 foot.  The consruction is the same as a new house would be built;  2" x 4" bottom plates;  double top plates;  2" x 12" headers; Jack and King studs and clearances that satisy the Local Building Codes as I understand them.

Enjoy the ride..

The first image is the adjustable jig I made to cut the "wall" studs." The fine-tooth saw goes between the thin slot and the 3/32" x 1/4" wall stud material, (Balsa wood) goes to the stop, then cut.

ning-100-0529a-47996-95.jpgThis image, (inserted wrong, but I'll learn again..) shows the wall building jig, left and right walls.  The blocks with the hooks are stud spacers and the thin one is for three-corner walls.

The next image is the floor plan of our house.

This one shows how our house plan had to be re-sized to the 1/2" = 1 foot scale along with the full-size patterns to start the walls.

That shows you what a carpenter I still am.

I would have been making a small story tape and marking studs at 16 (sized down) and such on it then marking out studs with an x to the right or left (depending) and then use my pin nailer to nail the ends.

Never would have thought of the Jigs.  Nice!!
