April 2, 201115 yr I get lots of cutoffs of figured maple and other woods. Anybody here what to trade a box for a pen or two. I can fill a flat rate box with stock and send it to you for a pen. I will make sure the stuff is at least 3/4" thick and 6" long. I think that is what pen turner use. Let me know if this would work. bob
April 2, 201115 yr If Charles doesn't take you up on your offer I am interested. Just let me know what style of pen you would like. I have many component sets in stock, or could get anything you like. If the wood you send isn't dry. It might take a little longer.
April 2, 201115 yr Author Greg and Charles, all the wood is kiln dried. I have curly maple, curly hard maple, birdseye maple, curly cherry and flame birch. I think I also have a piece of curly hickory someplace. I am not fussy about the pen. I have lots of pieces. here. I usually make charcoal out of it, so whatever you think is fine with me. I can send each of you a box full. Some of the stock is cutoff ends that may not be planed. Is that ok? I really just would like this stuff to be used. I offered it the the woodcraft store owner and he just blew me off. Said it was too hard for guys to turn???? Geez, I make table pedestals out of this stuff, it isn't that bad. If you want to send me your addresses in a pm, I can fill the boxes up and send them out next week. Thanks for getting back to me about this stuff. Glad to see it will be used. bob
April 2, 201115 yr I also don't mind if it is rough. As far as hard to turn I don't see why the WC owner could say that. I will turn anything that will fit on the lathe. PM sent on the address. You may get a surprise too.
April 2, 201115 yr Author He said because it was figured it would be hard to turn. I am not a turner, but get done what I need to. I just am glad you guys can use this. Thanks for getting me your addresses. I will get the boxes out to you. Flame birch is white and red. It smells wonderful when you work it. Very sweet smelling. Thanks again guys. You both do some wonderful work. bob
April 7, 201115 yr Author Glad you got it Charles. Hope it is useful. Sounds like you may have to find a bigger saw. Good luck, some of it is really hard. bob
