April 7, 201115 yr John has agreed to allow me to post some of my older designs here on his new Forum.  Here's a Canvas CAD program design you might like to start out with. It's one I designed many years ago when I wanted to build false ceiling beams in an older house we used to live in.  The design uses stock lumber sizes. I made ours from red oak with a Minwax Provincial stain and a Satin Poly finish. You will need a good stacked dado set, a good table saw and blade and steady hands. Simple, and looks very nice when complete.  Lots more to come..  Larry Â
April 7, 201115 yr It is so amazing that you actually chose this one to post first Larry, I have been wanting to install an ornamental box beam through my home for years, great stuff man, thanks for kicking us off with a great detail of how to do a fabricated beam!
April 7, 201115 yr  I've made a few of your projects and they've come out great.I'll be sure to keep an eye on this area to find more. Thanks for taking the time to post them.
April 7, 201115 yr This is great. Thanks Larry. I have always wanted beams, in a ranch house. Just me, I know. bob
April 7, 201115 yr For those who want to make this beam(s).. You will note that the design gives you a "prportional" beam, meaning the the height to width ratio is just right. And because they are higher than the cheap ones, they look real. Some beams are flatter, and look funny. My opine.. April 7, 201115 yr I made several of the Butterfly Houses for Christmas gifts and now I'm making several of the paper towel holders.Simple things but they got me out to the garage in the middle of winter.Larry Jenkins said:Thanks Harry.. Which ones did you build?LarryHarry Brink said: I've made a few of your projects and they've come out great.I'll be sure to keep an eye on this area to find more. Thanks for taking the time to post them.
April 7, 201115 yr Thanks again Harry..One of the nice things about the paper towel holder design is the angled slot that prevents the towel bar from being"ripped" out of it.The Butterfly house really gives one a lot of options as to sizes and roof angles. For those wondering where these plans are, I posted them over on WOOD some time ago, but I'm going to re-post all my designs on TAW in John's new Forum.LarryHarry Brink said:I made several of the Butterfly Houses for Christmas gifts and now I'm making several of the paper towel holders.Larry Jenkins said:Thanks Harry.. Which ones did you build?LarryHarry Brink said:  I've made a few of your projects and they've come out great.I'll be sure to keep an eye on this area to find more. Thanks for taking the time to post them.
