Howdy,

I'm Will Downing from Topeka KS.  Currently I work for the State as a Media Producer and have gotten a pretty good start on my hobby shop by attending auctions and the judicious purchase of items from a few of the members here.

My eventual goal is to build furniture.  Whether it sells or not really is immaterial, I just enjoy making sawdust.  It provides me a different creative outlet than that which I'm normally engaged in.  Currently I'm building some flag cases for use here locally, and I have an order for a "Craftsman/Mission" styled couch that I'm gathering my courage to try.

I have a couple of Unisaws rescued from local schools, a Parks planer, Powermatic drill press and combination sander, a Delta LD shaper, a 6" joiner and two Delta 14" bandsaws (one wood/metal that I'm especially fond of), a smaller radial arm saw from the 50's and the usual brick-a-brack that makes up a garage shop.  I'm currently lusting after an Oliver 399 planer that I saw at OWAMMO's last fall and a full sized mortiser.

I'm constantly impressed, and often overwhelmed by the skills, talent and ability of those who frequent these forums.  Through perserverance, or maybe just cussedness, I hope to be able to someday display a tenth of the skills shown.  Thanks for the kind greetings as I joined the sight, and I hope to be able to contribute in my own small way.

Great intro Will. I hope you will enjoy the time here. Lots of wonderful folks. I will keep my eyes open for the mortiser. I know where one is. Any budget numbers you want to stay in? The mortiser might be sold, but last I knew, it wasn't paid for yet. I'll check later today. bob

Will, thanks for the intro and welcome again to the forum. Thanks for jumping in and breaking the ice and posting. Sounds like you have a good start on a fine shop. You'll have to give us the tour soon.

We will also be looking forward to pictures of the sofa as you get it going.

Welcome Will! It sounds like you've got a realy good start on outfitting your shop. I too am humbled by the talents and craftsmanship that these guys display in their projects. These guys can teach us both alot. I look forward to your projects and your comments.

Will  welcome
