The Gatsby I started over 2 weeks ago I finally got around to completing

 

Finished in yellow gold and Macassar Ebony.

 

Unfortunately I don't have very good lighting here so my images suffer as a result.

 

Nice Job on the pen Charles. I know what you mean about seeing things first. I have thought about taking pictures before I finish just to see if they show something I missed.

I remember turning a bowl I thought look great and felt good. When I took a picture you could see all kind of tool marks in it. Had to re-chuck it and go back to smoothing and sanding.

Look a lot better. Great job and a nice save.

 I've used alcohol (not the drinking kind) to highlight any tool marks that may be present and it works pretty good. The alcohol wets the wood but evaporates and doesn't leave any residue behind to foul the finish. Just rub a little onto the wood with a lint free cloth.
