April 14, 201115 yr  First of all, let me apologize for posting my Kitchen Cabient design here earlier. Should have been in the "Plans and Software" Forum. Sorry, John..  Back to the Model Shop. Today, we will look at my JET dust collector and my Delta dedicated Mortiser. The last two major tools in the shop.  The first image is the Dust Collector. Most parts turned on m y metal lathe. The manifold and base are from balsa block.    Number two shows the Mortiser. The base needed another coat of silver paint. All from balsa block. The handle is 1/16" wire wrapped in tape.   Tomorrow, I'll show you the completed Model Shop project! Some pretty dramatic images..  Larry
April 14, 201115 yr darn...a dust collector too, that blows my mind.......did you build the old plastic model airplanes, cars (probably the snap together jobs, hahahaha ) The little testor spray bombs and paints?????  Ahhhhh...brings back memories  -Ace-
April 14, 201115 yr Thanks, Ace..Yes, as a young lad, I built many "stick" airplane models. The one's where the parts were printed on balsa sheets and had to be cut out withn a razor blade. Many cut fingers back then. Now, if you will go to the WOOD site, www.woodmagazine.com/forums and go to the "Off Topic" forum and go back a ways. ou will see the F4U; B-17G and F-14 I built late last year.Larry
April 14, 201115 yr  Ace.. Told ya wrong. Go to the WOOD site, then type in "F-14" in the search box and you will see the model I built late last year. Then go back some more and you will see the F-4U and the B-17G.Larry
April 14, 201115 yr That is just cool. I need a small one for my lathe, but not quite that small. Nice job again Larry. bob
April 14, 201115 yr As a young boy, my older brother helped me build the Santa Maria ship from balsa wood, totally from scratch and a picture to guide us, a school project. I remember using a tea kettle and steaming the balsa to get the shapes. Using dowel rods for mast. My mothers old hair net for the netting on the mast. We used hair spray to stiffen the net. Old white tee shirt for sail. Â Used some of my dad's oil based stain for color...oh the glue squeeze-out soaking into the balsa. Sanding the ship with fine paper to blend the joints..........
