Skill Saw

Featured Replies

Anyone ever had trouble with skill saw ???!!!!!!!!!!!

I got a Craftsman saw and it hasn't been used that much.

I can't get the blade to tighten on the arbor

When I try to tighten the blade , the rotor, armtor ?(sp)  wants to turn instead of putting tension

on the arbor nut.

Is it time to park it and get new one or is there any hope in fixing it?????????????

Hey Mark, do you have a button to push to lock the blade while your tightening it? And it's a Craftsman not a Skil band correct?

I had an old craftsman and I don't remember if it had the button or you had to put a screwdriver through a hole in the blade to hold it to tighten. I think I still have it somewhere in the shop, I will look when I get in this afternoon.

on all my saws there is a button that engages a lock on the arbor that holds it so you can tighten the nut or bolt

On my two ( and one is an older Craftsman) one puts either a screwdriver through a slot in the shoe, or a spike through the slot in the shoe.   No button on either.   The spike goes through a gullet on the blade itself.     Rotation when you tighten the bolt presses against the spike in the gullet.

Some also have a hex key hole in the end of the arbor shaft that holds the arbor still while you use a wrench to tighten the arbor nut.

I'd suggest hand tight, putting the wrench on and hitting the trigger quick but IT IS NOT TO BE DONE BY ANYONE BUT ME!!

Also make sure the washers that hold the blade are in the correct position and that they are the correct ones (there are inset washers, diamond inserts and inner washers that need to be in the right position for certain blades).

An old trick, kind of hard on the blade...use a pair of visegrips to hold the blade, while you turn the bolt.  Be sure to NOT clamp onto any teeth, though.  Is this Skilsaw a worm drive, perhaps?
