April 17, 201115 yr  Here's two images and then the very lengthy design details for a Cedar Chest I designed and built for my oldest Daughter about three years ago. They have been somewhat "compressed" to allow them to be posted here. I "borrowed" some design and materials information from WOOD magazine, Issue 142. They are the source for the no mortise hinges; the lid stays and the top trim under the lid details. All other design information is mine. The corners of the Cedar Chest are formed with 45 degree angle cuts and glued together. There is an isometric view of them in the plans below. Tomorrow, I'll post a simple jig down in the Plans and Software Forum I designed for assembling the corners in a simple, but very effective way. It will cost you virtually nothing to make.  Now the images, then the plans.  Image number one shows The completed Cedar Chest with the lid open to show the aromatic Cedar lining and a special tray with a center lid. There is no finish on the aromatic Cedar and the underside of the lid is finished with shellac to prevent outgassing from polyurethane.  The aromatic Cedar lining pieces were individually cut and hot melt glued in place.  My Daughter wanted the reddish finish on it. Not my choice, but she like it. That's all that counts.   Image two shows the completed Cedar Chest with the lid closed. The outside of the Cedar Chest is finished with Satin poly, rubbed out with 0000 steel wool and TreWax which is 100% Carnauba wax in a modified Mineral Spirits carrier. (Odor removed.)   Here's the plans..  Â
April 17, 201115 yr That's a great looking chest Larry. Very classy looking. I am sure she loved it and still does. Â
