Shoe storage

Featured Replies

My daughter found this picture and wants me to build her one.  I really like it and wouldn't mind making one for myself too while I'm at it.  Has anyone ever seen a plan for something like this?  I'm a little worried that if I just start out without a plan I'll end up with something that won't stay shut and keep falling open.  It's very similar to the potato boxes or waste basket holders.

i think roy by looking at the pic that all the weight would be behind the pivot on the bottom, (or hinges) so it woud naturally stay closed even without any shoes in it

That is cool!

I have never seen one of thoe before.

I saved the photos in my wood working files.

Maybe I'll get around to it one day. :-)

Yup I agree about the pivot point and staying closed...very cool Idea...now where does the air fresher goGrin.gif

Roy that is a realy cool idea. By the time you add the weight of the shoes and factor in the weight of the mass behind the pivot point I don't think you'll have a problem with it staying closed. Thanks for posting!

Sorry Paul you already said that!

roy i also believe that when it is in the open position the relation of the weight to the pivots will naturally keep it in the open position. what would be more of a concern to me would be a device (and im not sure at this point what it is) to limit the closing speed or at least the last little bit of travel so little fingers wouldnt get pinched.  what comes to mind is i have seen some soft closing restrictors on factory made cabinets on display  at lowes. they go in the upper corner of the door frame and limit the closing speed that the door closes with so it doesnt slam shut. maybe something like that would work

Roy that is a neat piece. I hate to admit but to put all of my shoes in, it would have to look like a highboy. Grin.gif

oh boy it is a neat idea. but better not let my wife see this or I'll be making one for her
