April 24, 201115 yr i never really thought about saftey items of the kind related to my lungs, except the ever present mask. but about three weeks ago we visited the Woodcraft store in north Orlando, FL and came away with a new JET Air filtration System and a mask that gets most of the stuff. the air filtration box cycles the air in a 20X20 shop 12 times an hour so it should really get 'r done in my 12X16. i use a lot of light, (now using the curly bulbs in the shop), and i could see the micro dust floating while i wasn't doing anything!!i got a new recptacle box installed up where i can plug it in and should be able to hang it tomorrow. i think both kids are coming because dad is still not quite normal after the leg break in january. if not, two of us can do it. that air filtration system is something to think about............the mask works pretty good until you take it off, and then you start breathing the little stuff......just one guys opinion.....and the fun part of the trip was the new superNova2 four jaw chuck that was on sale for 139.00.......but then they get you for another 23.00 for the "required" adapter for your mandral???? this is the first chuck i've ever had in my turning life, and i cant believe the difference it makes!!!!take care, bill
April 24, 201115 yr My brother has a Jet filtration system hanging in his shop and I was amazed at how quiet it was and how much it pulled from the air. A great investment.Â
April 24, 201115 yr Bill, congratulations on the filtration system. I can't wait until I get one up in my shop. Something to think about with all of the dust floating around. Â Also congrats on the SuperNova. You will really enjoy it. It sure opens up some different options for turning. The only thing you find after your first chuck is you want more. Being a little lazy I purchase a second one soon after the first just so I didn't have to change faces all the time. I am already eying a third one.

April 24, 201115 yr Thanks for posting a great reminder Bill, dust is something that we overlook, Ron Altier had an episode a while back too. I have been thinking about an overhead fine dust filter for a long time now, and I really need to get serious with is, my shop has poor ventilation, and I work with walnut a lot.Sounds like a really productive trip to Woodcraft! I love it when a plan works out.Â
April 24, 201115 yr Most people don't realize it's as simple as opening up a window and putting a fan blowing out of another one. I set off the fire alarm at my freind John's house everytime I'm over there cause of the fine dust. This method is used by floor refinishing companies, sheetrock sanders and I use it anywhere I'm going to be making a ton of dust. One of the small dust collectors with a hose going outside will do a 20x20 room in nothing flat.
