Some of my Wood Turnings

Featured Replies

Although I don't currently own a wood lathe I thought I would share some of my past turnings.  Hopefully I can pick up another old lathe to restore cause I really enjoy playing on the lathe.

Hollow forms, large one is about 18 inches dia.

24 inch Walnut bowl

IMG_9506.jpgHat, with turned beads, and some natural edge. I wear this hat from time to time and get a lot of comments on it. Less than a 1/16th thick, thin enough that light will shine through it.

Wow, Shane, I don't know where to start. Those are some awesome turnings and the photography is extremely good.

I love it all, especially the hat. That is a stand out piece. I also love all of the bowls and hollow forms. I am a sucker for walnut so I really like it but I wouldn't want to put it above any of the others.

And the IAP of the year, wow. Now that is awesome

Thanks so much for sharing those, what a collection. I hope you find a lathe soon and turn some more of those wonderful pieces.

I agree...awesome work and the pic's are fantastic.

Very nice Shane. All of your work and photograpy is fantastic but l really like the natural edge bowl and the cast feather pens. I'd really like to know how you go about casting the pen blanks if you'd care to share. In my opinion the Sierra pens are the best looking kits available today. Please post more of your art. Very inspirational.

That is just some beautiful work Shane. I thought I saw an old delta lathe in one of your pictures? I am not a turner, just a flat work guy, but those pictures of your work are just outstanding. The feather pens are really cool. Like Charles asked, how do you do it?

Thanks again for the comments :)

AS I get up off the floor after viewing the making of a feather pen, let me just say thank you. It is always great to learn something completely out of my ability. Shane, your work is just awesome. bob

Thank you so much for sharing your tutorials. You are a very talented artist. I will have to try my hand at casting blanks. I gave all of my fly tying equipment and supplies to my son, but I still have all of my rod building equipment and I may have to try some thread art with a tube or two. Thanks again Shane!

Shane those are just spectacular. I really, really like everything you posted. The hat amazes me.

I also thank you for the tutorials.

Totally awsume..........TOTALLY.

And you don't currently have a lathe?  What the heck are you thinking?  Get a lathe, get it soon, and make some more of that great stuff..

Man Shane that's some kind of great turning and photography.....

I hope that you can make it to one of our OWAMMO's Gatherings some time and give a demo......thanks

Thanks again guys, glad ya like the pics and the tutorials.

Joshua, it's a sad sad story why I don't have a lathe. I had a couple of them at one time but ended up selling them so I could buy another beautiful old lathe that came up for sell locally.  I spoke in person with the seller of the lathe who promised he would hold it for me so I went home and sold the lathes I had. Two days after talking to him I called him back and told him I had the money, but he informed me that he had just sold it to someone else.

Shane,

What kind of old wood lathe are you perhaps thinking about getting or what would be the top 2-3 on your list?

Thanks again ~ Dan

Dan, Top of my list would be a large F&E or Prybil gap-bed lathe, next would be an Oliver pattern makers lathe.

Be careful Shane, Dan has a way of coming up with things....I'll keep a watch out here, see if I come across anything. bob

Shane, I was blown away by your turnings. My abilities are just for self entertainment, but yours are pieces of wood art.
