commemorative rifle display case

Featured Replies

I was asked to build this display case to be given to the clients daughter. He wanted and got a red velvet backer and he also wanted it to open from the top........with a lock.

I had planned for 1 lock, but either I didn't see the bow when milling and cutting.......or it bowed after cutting. There was maybe a 1/16" gap in one corner and it looked terrible. Anyway, I had to go with locks in both corners, and problem solved. The glass is held in place by that rubber stuff that fits in a kerf. No stain..........just clear lacquer. Plus the back has a french cleat to hanging on the wall. I also made the little cradles to display the rifle. Thanks for look'n.

I think it looks great. I like the red and the molding around the glass it add a lot to the looks. Nice work Gary.

Nice work Gary. Good catch on fixing the problem with the bow. bob

Wow Gary that is nice craftmanship.  Did you have the gun to fit the case to?  I'm curious how you got the dimensions for the cradles.  Tempered glass?

Thanks guys.

This is....I think...... the 3rd time I've used bead moulding.........and it's easier than I thought. I hated using 2 locks....but didn't want to make a whole new top............and mortise in those hinges again.

Wow, Gary, that is super. I love the beading around the glass. I like the red back ground. It should look great with the gun. I like the way you did the cradles also. And as Ron ask, did you have the gun to get the heights of the cradles?

Great job and thanks for sharing it.

Ya, I had the client bring his rifle over and we even went so far as to lay a level on the barrel, and I trimmed qn 1/8" at a time till we got it.

Them cradles????? I had no idea what I wanted except they had to have a fork. I just drew out a pattern, layed it on a piece of 5/4, and went to the scroll saw. They looked bulky, so I tapered them from bottom to top. I think they now looked respectable.............like I know what I'm doing!!!!!105.gif

THe cradles look great.  They're attractive but not so bulky as to take away from the gun.  Nice work!

Great looking case!
