May 1, 201115 yr I posted this before over at another site, I thought I'd post it here for conversation and maybe some ideas for folks. I build boxes for our trucks when we get new trucks in. This is a new truck for my shop at work, the boxes are built to accommodate our land surveying equipment, legs, lath and hubs, digging implements, rods, etc. I build the boxes in about a day and a half, we buy whatever ply is on sale, it's 3/4" ply with aluminum bull nosing for the edges. The drawer accommodates 2 and 4 foot lath, the cubby's are for the legs or tripods, rods, and digging tools, metal detectors, and the PVC tubes on top are for our signage "Survey Crew Ahead" signs. And the steel sign standards set between the PVC tubes, the tubes on the far right hold more rods. The drawer has casters on the bottom, don't forget to latch the drawer to the bottom of the bed, it goes bang really loud when you accelerate or stop if it's not secured! Thanks for looking, Â
May 1, 201115 yr Nice clean looking unit John. When you have time I'd like a close of the aluminum bull nosing or explain what it is. Is it flat, rounded?
May 1, 201115 yr John, that is a very cool idea. I like the way it looks and fits the bed. Great idea and excellent job on building them.
May 2, 201115 yr Author Will do Rich! I'll get some closer shots of the aluminum for ya. by the way, my calling it bull nose is not correct, it is basically square channel. May 2, 201115 yr Author Thanks John, they are fun to build too, not much goes into them, just a bunch of ply, glue and screws, fun to just be able to cut glue and screw now and then without worrying too much about finishing. Each one gets better as the guys who have them in their trucks give me feedback on what they like and dislike. John Moody said: John, that is a very cool idea. May 2, 201115 yr If you turned the whole thing upside down and flipped the drawer the space underneath would be great for dirty shovels and such.
May 2, 201115 yr Author Got that covered Mike, shovels and digging bars go at the lower right cubby. By the way, never heard of a clean shovel! dragon1 said: If you turned the whole thing upside down and flipped the drawer the space underneath would be great for dirty shovels and such.
