May 1, 201115 yr  A short time ago, I posted an image of my splayed stile, Black Walnut China Cabinet. In the post, I asked if anyone would be interested in seeing the jig I used to cut the tapers on the stiles. I got a request, so here's the images of the China Cabinet (again)  to try and show how the stles taper from top to bottom (72"), and then the image of the jig.    Here's the jig. The clamps can be repositioned anywhere on the board. Place the board to be tapered on the carrier board with the top and bottom lines of the taper even with the edge on both ends. Clamp the board to be cut to the Carrier board with the two clamps. Measure the width of your Carrier board and set the fence to that dimension. Using the clamp handes, slide the board to be tapered thought the blade until the whole board has been taper cut. I hope this is clear. Larry     Â
May 1, 201115 yr Very Nice Larry. I have several taper jigs like that I use. I have one for tapered bed posts that I use that is very long[7 feet] that I made that has a box attached that fits over the fence. Makes it very nice for long stock as the fence and box are very rigid and no slop gets in .
May 2, 201115 yr hey larry, thats basically the same as i use for my legs on my tables only on a smaller scale, i used it for tapered deck spindles as well, works great thanks, paul
May 2, 201115 yr Very nice Larry, Thanks for posting it. Bob, I have one I made that sounds like the one you have. It is 82" long and I used it to cut the 8 sided tapers on a pencil post bed. It rides over the fence and has an indexing box on the end. Â
May 2, 201115 yr Yes sir John, that sounds like it. Works great. Have made many beds with that one. bob
